Louisville to ACC by the Wednesday the 28th?

Post by lwjr »

ESPN is reporting that the ACC school presidents will vote on Wednesday morning at 7 am on expansion. Louisville is the school that is expected to be invited if the school presidents vote for the expansion. ESPN is also saying UConn, Cincy as well as Louisville had been aggressively lobbying the ACC to join. All three are desperate to leave the Big East.

This hurts the big 12. UL was desperate to go to the Big 12. I think the ACC is going to be fine. They can easily go to 16 by adding UCONN and Cincinati or even Memphis. Texas is hogging the money by having the Big 12 stay at 10 and then will eventually bolt to the PAC 12 and take OU, OSU, and Tech with them. I actually think this is the best case scenario for us forming a league with Big 12 leftovers, mountain west leftovers, and Big East leftovers. A league with say

Baylor
TCU
Iowa State
Memphis
Houston
SMU
UTEP
Rice

BYU
Boise State
San Diego State
Fresno State
UNLV
Colorado State
Air Force
Hawaii

Louisville bolts along with Cincy and UConn

So basically we and the rest gained absolutely nothing by moving!! Can't imagine the TV contract being very good at all. If I were the bball schools, I would form my own conference and TV contract with the BE. We should be BE bball and MW in fball I guess...\

Seems like we would fit in better w/ ACC than Cincy in terms of Academics (similar to Duke, WF)?

Okay, now that the ACC is full where do UConn and Cincinnati go? They are stuck in the BE for the time being.

UConn and Cincy are waiting for the ACC to get raided, when that happens they'll get their ACC invites.

Isn't the Big 12 coming after Florida State and Clemson? Also heard the Big 10 could come after Virginia, North Carolina or Georgia Tech.

Hot off the ESPN wire

It says that they aren't going to add UConn and Cincinnati now, but they might add them in the future

The ACC felt Louisville was the best choice because of its "aggressive approach" to success including commitment to "marquee athletics programs" a source told ESPN.

The big boys are cannibalizing one another. In the past 5 years, the Big-12 has been raided by the SEC, the Big-10, and the PAC, while the ACC has been raided by the Big-10. The only "stable" conferences at this point are the SEC, Big-10, and PAC-12. The ACC is very vulnerable. Likewise, the Big-12 is very vulnerable. My guess is there will now be a war between the Big-12 and the ACC which will end with one conference stronger and one permanently weakened.

The ACC has fired the first shot by adding a school that was widely considered the Big-12's next target. The Big-12 cannot allow the ACC to slowly encroach on what it considers it's present or future turf (ala the Big-10 when the ACC took Pitt and Syracuse). They will strike back.

The irony is that whoever wins the Big-12/ACC war will still be vulnerable to attacks from the superpower conferences. I don't think there is a single member of either conference (except maybe Texas) that would not seriously consider an offer to join the PAC, Big-10, or SEC. I really think this is eventually headed to three big conferences along with some collection of the leftovers.
