Have you read the fine print? Also, TX retained it's 3rd tier rights....

ok, so say TX goes to P12... Does B12 want to air the Tx-USC game? If so, they can. not likely.

But if they bypass tier 1, tier 2, then Tx gets to air it...gives it to P12 to air.

So...wouldn't they just negotiate this scenarios out for say $10m?

No, I didn't forget about the Big-12 schools signing over their TV rights. I agree that makes the conference secure in the short run. I am talking about the end-game. Every year that passes makes the penalty for poaching a Big-12 school a little bit smaller. 13 years may sound like a long time, but it seems like just yesterday that the SWC went bye-bye.

I might be getting the discussion a little off-track by looking down the road though. I think Stallion's list is about right . . . for now.

Ironically, ND move to ACC prompted the instability that they are about to be left out of (at least, unless they decide to join b10 or b12 all in)

UVA and UNC would feel right at home with SMU. So would ND and Navy. A new ACC is a most likely destination for us if Rick Hart and Turner will push...

Yeah I'm trying to look down the road and see if the ACC is a possibility for SMU to survive in a reasonably decent conference.

Agreed. We just have to hope that 5 conferences live on, not 4. and that they all want to get to 16+

Louisville may never end up playing a game in the ACC

In this scenario, I have little doubt SMU would be invited to the ACC if it went back to 12. If the ACC goes to 14 or 16, our presence is a certainty.

Imo we belong in a conf w duke and wake. I fear Tulane tags along though and then you'll have the primordial magnolia league

Sounds like a good academic conference. Might be a good selling point since it will no doubt be considered outside the Big 4, which no doubt will be the eventual layout

PAC will not take Fresno or SDSU but I admit the Big 12 really screwed them and they are left with basically no good options if it was mandated that they go to 16. I'm not one of these guys that think SMU to PAC is likely but SMU might have a shot before Fresno. Nevada would, UNLV would but I seriously doubt Fresno. In fact, I think they'd refuse to budge off 12
