Big 10 has gone to 14 so question is "when will we see the name of the conference change?" Do they go to Big 14??

I think the SEC is content at 14 and will only add if there is value added to conference. What school/state does that?

ACC might be happy to stay with 14 and they have basically become the new Big East (football) and ACC merged. They have the east coast markets, great bball tradition and don't forget the association deal with Notre Dame.

We need to hope the Big East holds together so we can benefit from their basketball tradition and MSG. Football is basically CUSA 3.0

No one in the ACC is signing a GOR that would chain them to the conference (and that backloaded ESPN deal). The ACC isn't adding UC and UConn unless they lose more members (to the Big 12, Big 10 and SEC).

GOR = Grant of Rights, as in what the Big XII-IV+2 did with 12 years' worth of TV rights.

No way the ACC could get away with a successful GOR, not with so many teams rumored to be looking to get out.

Things always seem to be negotiable. I hope the ACC gets raided. If so, we are in a better position.

Maryland does have one interesting point to litigate. Neither Florida St or Maryland signed the Grant of Rights. The Grant of Right passed by supermajority vote. In this case a good argument might be made that the liquidated damages amount is unreasonable and a penalty because they slapped that puppy down in short order without giving Maryland or Florida St a reasonable opportunity to find a new conference. If you lived in a neighboor that slapped a Homeowners Million Dollar fine for a restriction effective immediately would you be forced to pay the Million Dollars if you sold your house 3 months after the effective date. Then I'd expect Maryland to introduce evidence that they have been seeking another conference since the imposition of the Penalty.

It isn't a grant of rights, it was a raised exit fee. ACC, not Big 12

The ACC has to take a super hard-line on the exit fee. If they lose this question or settle for something significantly less, the ACC is toast. They may be toast anyway, but this would probably accelerate the exodus.

IMO the ACC was one step ahead of the BE regarding this issue. They filed a suit first against MD hence they won't be fighting in MD courts where they can't possibly win. Whereas WVA filed suit against the BE first and filed it in couch burner country so there was no possible way the BE had a chance at a fair hearing.

The ACC has to take a hard line on this and go for the $50 Million and not settle. Otherwise, there is at least one other program in the same boat, FSU, that would make the same argument as UMD. If FSU goes, then the the leak becomes a flood and teams are racing for the door. Right now I suspect that FSU is taking a wait and see approach. If the ACC wins, then it gets about $5 Million. If the ACC loses, it can walk without penalty.
