PRIORITIES

Post by redpony »

The Dallas Business Journal has an article about SMU likely building its' own golf course for $50mil. Now I love golf and used to play quite a bit but IMO that money could much better be spent on an IPF and a new natatorium. I think this is just another indication of RGT's lack of interest in having a top level fball program and bringing back a swimming program that used to be one of the best in the country.
Other opinions???

I think the City and AT&T share some of that cost.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I was going to say if we had 100% cost then they should build a baseball stadium. Heck if cougar high an rice have one why should we? Baseball is huge in the metroplex. Also baseball is the 3rd sport that matters to conferences. Not trying to put down other sports but if you don't believe me look at HS it's fall football winter basketball spring baseball. Always has been always will be. Just my opinion take from what you will. I sure would be the first season ticket holder for Mustang baseball.

You guys sound like the faculty now. If someone, including the City of Dallas, and ATT or whomever, in addition to donors want to put $$ there then that is their right.

Lol how dare you insult me but saying I'm like the faculty. No I was saying if SMU had 50 million lying around to invest into a sport. Then pick baseball. If someone or entity said we will share cost to build a golf course then yes by all means do it.

IPF and anything to aid football yes.

Natatorium - who cares.

Baseball - sure, but that's a lot more of a decision than building a baseball field.

Good lord nobody wants to throw their donor money away at boring, dying baseball.

First of all, I care about a natatorium and a new track, as the work those coaches have done with prehistoric facilities is nothing short of astounding. I also desperately want to see an indoor practice facility and a first-class soccer facility.

That said, if Dallas and AT&T want to throw big bucks at SMU and help pay for something that's going to be a hugely prominent facility and will have SMU's name all over it, then hell yes. Put the first shovel in the ground.
