I'm assuming that's who this is. Rivals says he's got a clear leader (a Mustang's son wants to play for A&M??????), but at least SMU is being mentioned. I don't suppose he'll follow Dad to the Hilltop, but we're on his list.

What a day of embarrassment and humiliation that would be! If one of SMU's most recognized and beloved alumni, chose not to follow his dad thirty miles down the road! If Adam does not come to the Hilltop, there should be more than a few HEADS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK!!!!!!!!!

Maybe Craig only wants his son to go where he can get paid to play, since we are no longer offering decent salaries to our players he is encouraging his son to go elsewhere. <tongue in cheek>

a better question is how many 6-3, 230 pound TEs who run 4.75 and play 3A football get Division 1A scholarships-actually I think I read Celina actually dropped to 2A recently after briefly being 3A.

hate to bash the guy - and I actually like Craig James - but I'm with Stallion on this one. and not just because we are on the list as a courtesy ( the list is probably his list by the way - not who is interested in him) - and Dad's announcer postion is going to have everyone being nice - but he is too short and too lite to be a 1-a TE - too slow to be anything else except maybe a fullback - I'm sure he is a good athlete, but I betcha he does not get what he is expecting. I don't see the big loss in missing him.

I thought the issue was that Craig thought his son deserved some sort of "legacy scholarship" (ala the Ryan Wolcott controversy). The reality of the situation is that this team doesn't have that luxury – it needs to use every available scholarship to attract players who can make a difference.

I'm sure Adam James is a fine player, but I doubt he's the sort of bona-fide blue chipper that we'd offer this early. On top of that, we have several young TE prospects already waiting in the wings. TE isn't a area of high need.

First, there is no rule that says he has to stay at tight end. He has linebacker size and close to acceptable speed. Second, legacy means something when you are talking about a very productive former player who by the way is in the national spot light. The offer alone would be a positive step toward future recruiting. If the kid is not good enough for Div I and he wants to play football, he will go somewhere else. And who knows, if we offer, and Craig knows his son is not Div I material, he may recommend his son to walk on rather than use up a scholarship. The point is, you make the offer and if he accepts you stand by it. The pay back may not come with Adam, but it will be repaid in the future many times over. Or it will be looked upon in a bad way if the offer is not made.

If his son came here on scholarship, do you think Craig might increase his Mustang Club contributions? He can certainly afford some big numbers. Personally, its a no brainer, he should be offered. He is a legacy and who knows, we don't know his frame. He might hit the weight room and end up 40 pounds heavier and a defensive end. If he wants to play bad enough, there are always slots to be filled. If he comes here and sits on his butt, he'll ride pine for 4 years.

Realize I agree with that fully, my point was that the fact we are full up with TEs should not be a reason for not offering. If this was the top rated TE in the country, we should not pass on him because we are full up. I am talking Marketing 101. We need reasons for perople to come to SMU. Winning would be the best, but for now, positive publicity would be good. I am not saying Adam could play at SMU or any other Div I school. I am not saying he could not either. This is just a matter of marketing.

Ironically, if we were in a position that giving up a scholarship to a question mark did not matter, it would mean that we were at a level that giving up a scholarship would not matter. But I am a strong beliver in Legacy in the proper instances, and I personally feel this should be one of those instances.

can someone remind me what was said by and about Carl Wright when Bracey went to Indiana? We'd have had bhop & Bracey Wright...talk about a legacy player meshing with new blood. I can't remember, though...did SMU even have a remote shot at Bracey?
