SMU top WAC school in the rankings
Cleveland, Ohio - SMU stands at #40 in the latest United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division I standings, as released by the organization on Thursday. The Mustangs total 280 points at the end of the winter sport season. SMU is currently the top WAC school. Hawaii is the next highest-ranked WAC school in 89th place with 122.5 points. Among Texas schools, SMU is second behind the fourth-ranked University of
Texas (618.25 points).
Stanford University and the University of Michigan are still in a close battle for the Division I Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings, with just 16.5 points separating the leader.
This is the third set of winter standings and includes the sports of fencing, rifle, skiing, women and men's basketball, ice hockey, swimming and track and field, women's ice hockey and men's gymnastics and wrestling.
The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.
