Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!Half the fans would leave if they piped in music like that.
I'm not one of them, but I don't think it would go over well...
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
Why? Too loud maybe? Surely it would not be because the type of song it is. They play some hip hop at football games sometimes and it does not run off the gray hairs. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!Again, don't get me wrong, the band absolutely drives the crowd and is extremely entertaining at basketball games. But giving SMU more of a "hip hop vibe" would add some energy and life in to the building.
We are trying to break down the stigma that we are a bunch of lame, preppy, stuck up snobs, so all I'm saying is lets take some more opportunities to get players feeling the vibe a little bit. The students would get excited about some changes in pace with the music and entertainment too. The mission here needs to be to engage and motivate and fire up the youth, they are the ones we desperately need to get back on board with SMU athletics before its too late.. #GodFather #Tempo
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
There is a director of a sort that controls when the band can play on timeouts. Notice that whoever is directing the band is wearing a headset. Don't blame that guy, blame the sound guy. Of course the visible part of this is the band so the lesser of us would blame them ![]() Leader of the Band-itos.

You mean Beans, the thing that gets the entire student section involved? It's okay, it's just that little thing, amiright? Leader of the Band-itos.

Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
Would never work. One, the black fraternities and sororities are too small on campus to make an appreciable difference. Secondly, I have never seen Kappas, Alphas, Omegas, Sigmas, Deltas or AKA's at a game in the last two years. And finally, and I mean this with all due respect, outside of the athletes, the black student population at SMU combined has about as much sole as the bottom of my size 16 Brunos. Accordingly, this thought is laughable. If you want a better game day environment, you are going to have to get younger and significantly browner. I sing and talk mad ish during the games and despite the fact that I have two degrees from SMU, the blue hairs look at me like they wish I would shut up. I say screw them and enjoy myself, but I am in the minority on that one. And for the record, if folks would get to the games earlier they would hear more hip hop. It might be from the mid nineties, but its hip hop none the less. They need to pump some YMCM or MMG through the PA. I'm a go old school and say the student section would likely get "Crunk" if the played something along the lines of "We still in this [deleted]," "We Takin Over" or go old school with Bone Crusha's "I Ain't Neva Scared." Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
I thought "I Ain't Neva Scared" was played before a game once, believe the only one I was at was Rider. My HS band played it my senior year. Fun. Leader of the Band-itos.

Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
Really? Times must have changed. When I was there (late 80s/early 90s), I remember some amazing step contests. Just bring that into Moody and it would set it off. Don't need thousands, just a few dozen to get it started.
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like! One thing that bugs me is the gimmicks during timeouts. We go on a huge run, the crowd gets into it, and then boom...timeout. Stupid trivia game or children cheerleaders takes away all momentum. Know when to do each gimmick. If it is an important part of the game with momentum on our side, play "jump around" or something. And blast it.
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!
To put things into perspective, the Tri Delts won last year's step show. They haven't been to any games either. And not to be too technical, but you will lose your black audience if you call it a "step contest." It's a step show. Ponyfans.com voice of reason
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!Come on guys. Even if we get a bunch of local Dallas elements making Moody more "brown", it will still be mostly white and affluent. That is not a demographic known for wild, fun, spirited, unselfconscious, dancing and revelry.
Is it genetic? Is it due to the sexually repressed euro-christian culture? A mix of both? I don't know. What I do know is we have the population to make moody look a lot more like 1939 Nuremberg than that video. Why fight it? Obviously I am not advocating nazism. I am advocating the intimidation that pulled off so well. Simple unison chants (easier to get participation as there is no risk of embarassment and can sound loud) but made interesting with a purpose, like how "left right left right sit down!" lasts much longer than "SMU!" Lots of pseudo-religious inspired decor with a clear leader. Let's go full cult! "I think Couchem is right."

"Knuck if you Buck"!! Peruna is my mascot!
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like! The song in that video that plays when a visiting player fouls out is called "Hoe, Sit Down." Obviously this would never go over well at SMU but it's pretty hilarious
Re: This is what Moody needs to be like!If that ever happened at moody I would burn my tickets and run home crying my eyes out.
Trey was using the powers of Gamehendge to allow the show to continue, to give the band the strength it needed to help break through this barrier
