Am I the only one terrified? The lads sit their exams over the next two weeks. ANY of the starters fail a class and this team could go winless the rest of the way. I guess we are about to see who good the academic support for the BBall players is.
We get through this academic hurdle, I think we could have a special season. Mustangs Abu!
Re: Am I the only one terrified? They starters are not freshmen. They know what is takes. We'll be okay. Plus Coach Brown has already taken a picture with most of their teachers.

Re: Am I the only one terrified?
Or maybe that player WANTS to take a difficult class. Believe it or not, some college student athletes also come to school to learn, not act as semi-pro athletes.
Re: Am I the only one terrified?
The point is?....this professor may be failing a majority of the class....I have been there ( hated it) and the athletic and admin need to be as one. BS ..they try to make their point and its NOT about learning.
Re: Am I the only one terrified?if we are a real school that cares about winning you shouldn't have to worry about this at all....but knowing all of the liberal professors, they would love to fail all of the athletes. Hopefully RGT would step in at that point
Re: Am I the only one terrified?C'mon. Unless they are majoring in PreMed, SMU isn't so difficult that anyone should be able to pull a 'c' in any class. If they can't do that, they never should have gotten into any college, much less SMU.
Re: Am I the only one terrified?
That's total BS...I got good grades in college but there is always that one teacher who takes pride in making it hard for their students in general, and for certain the student-athletes. ....if they can.
Re: Am I the only one terrified? We had profs that hated the athletes and some that loved the athletes. The key was to learn who was who and get the right classes. If you got in the wrong class, you put on thick glasses with tape on the bridge and a pocket protector and sat in the back of class.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Am I the only one terrified?I will say that I taught a bunch of student athletes and on principal I hated the idea of passing them if they didn't deserve it. And the department never questioned me. But the classes are not hard. Oxford (England) it ain't.

Re: Am I the only one terrified?I had a [deleted] prof in econ a few yrs ago. First day he said only 1 or 2 people would get an A, a few b's and the rest would be on the verge of failing. Average grade on the first test was a 43. What a [deleted]. More than half of the class dropped
Re: Am I the only one terrified?the thing is some profs take it very personally when people miss their class. Athletes, especially bball players, miss alot of classes throughout the year. If you've ever tried, its also damn hard to study when you are physically exhausted, so it takes a determined kid to fight through that and not have lapses with the books.
Re: Am I the only one terrified?I'm pretty sure the athletic department hires personal baby sisters to make sure the players attend class for the whole duration and they have to sign out. I remember they did that with the football players when watching the SMU stampede.
Re: Am I the only one terrified?
Def. would've dropped after the first day. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Am I the only one terrified?Do you actually know of anyone who is struggling, or are you just shooting from the lip here? I' m asking because I havent heard of any problems, so unless you know something I dont, your whole scenario seems a bit farfetched. When has this ever actually happened? When was the last time we lost a mens basketball player to grades at the semester break. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the last I remember was Kato Armstrong, that would be 24years ago. So, unless you can tellme there is an actual probllem. then no, I'm not terrified of something that never happens.
You guys are like a bunch of little kids sitting around a campfire telling ghoststories and trying to one-up each other: "Ooh, and then the evil professor with the hook on his hand, bared his fangs and gave the whole class.......HOMEWORK!!!! The poor athlete was never seen or heard from again....."
