I'm willing to bet Hart hates a lot of yall already. Complaining about every single topic that comes up no matter what. It's better than none at all. Just accept it.

Yeah, the Hawaii Bowl should budgeted for every year as long as JJ's here, right?

I understand there are fixed costs for a trip like this, so in the end I will understand if the entire band can't go. But I also think this:

-Anything smaller than the full band means you aren't sending the "marching" band, since they function as a group. It means you are sending a "pep band". Thus, no pregame marching routine, no diamond M, no halftime, etc, only a band in the stands, more like bball season.

-A lot of folks on here complain that our band looks small enough as it is, so just imagine how 'rinky-dink' they will look with HALF that amount in the stands. (btw, did someone in this thread really estimate that half the band was 15 people? Really?)

-People all over the country will be casually tuning in on Christmas Eve and this is a chance for SMU to be on full display. Half a band, no mascot, a smaller group of cheer/pom, etc will look small-time to some of those people. I am curious to see what Fresno State will send.

As long as the head honchos and big donors are ok with all that, then I guess there's nothing more that can be done. That said, I'd be thrilled if I were a member of the band that go to go, and I'd also be quite happy to spend Christmas Eve with my family if I was not chosen to go.

http://www.rgj.com/article/20111219/SPO ... bring-band

" The Wolf Pack will become only the second mainland team in the 10-year history of the bowl to bring a band, bowl spokesman Derek Inouchi said. The first, ironically, was SMU in 2009"

seems very few schools in this bowl bring their band, what made me look this up is I believe when SMU played in 2009 Neveda didn't bring their band nor cheer squads.
maybe the money would have been better spent on a new band hall instead of dividing the band. there has to be hard feelings for those told they can't go.

That is pretty interesting. To read this board you would think SMU would be a complete outlier and embarassment if they did not send the entire band, but it turns out that SMU and Nevada are the only teams to have ever sent any band at all to the Hawaii Bowl.
