Big East BB divisions - Old school vs. New School

Not exactly what we signed up for, but complaining will do no good...

If they do hang together, it's likely the traditional Big East basketball schools will see more of each other and play fewer games against the expansion members. Aresco said the league is considering a scheduling model where "brand name" teams such as St. John's, Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette and Connecticut might play more home-and-home series.

"The media companies really like that idea, and so do our basketball schools," Aresco said. "Our southern cluster of schools understand they're going to raise their brand awareness because of Big East basketball. So, if there are more games among the other teams, they can work with that. It's the kind of thing that will strengthen our conference."
My guess: two hoops divisions.

Old school:
UConn
Providence
St. Johns
Villanova
Georgetown
Marquette
DePaul
Seton Hall

New school:
UCF
USF
Cincinnati
Memphis
SMU
Houston
Temple
Tulane

Each team does a home & home with every team in the same division (14 games) and plays 6 more games against teams in the other division. Division winners get seeds 1 and 2 in the tournament and the rest of the tournament is seeded based on record.

Probably necessary to save the conference--so long as the money is evenly split. If it is not, all bets will be off.

I'm cool with this. Not sure what the bball prospects are for Tulane, UCF, and USF in the near-term. But Cincinnati, Memphis, SMU, Houston, and Temple could really generate some fireworks in the newbie division over the next few years. I see some good games there.

I do too. Just kind of dissappointing that we won't have many games with the marquee teams in the BE.

May get Georgetown to Moody once every 6 years.

True. But if the model plays out like you guess, then there would be 6 cross-over games. Presumably that would mean 3 at home and 3 on the road. That gives us 3 nice home games from the oldies division every year. Granted, it won't be the same 3 schools every season. But I'd be happy to see any of those schools at Moody in a given year.

I agree, it is a huge step up from where we were, especially if Cincy and Temple get put in the new school division (which I think they will).

As long as it keep the basketball schools together and helps us get a good TV contract I and good with it. But I admit that I would like to see GT at Moody more often.

We just have to wait and see how he draws up the actual divisions. Those sound about right though if he were to do it like that. Just show me the money.
