Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
Abron is still playing for them this year, no? And their commitment list doesn't look that impressive outside of Shepherd. Actually sort of looks like a Doherty commitment list: http://rivals.yahoo.com/tcu/basketball/ ... ments/2013 Have they gotten any transfers other than Abron?

Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
I know that. They still have Abron. He was supposed to be a great transfer.
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49They won't beat us for 10 yrs
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
How does their commitment list not look all that impressive? I have not followed any of these guys but based on rankings and offers it looks to be not to far off from our class which is a top ~30ish in the country with 3 signees thus far. Granted, we have some nice transfers to add to that class. Shepherd- 4 star, #46 player in the country, offers from a who's who in college hoops- Baylor, Kansas, UCLA, UT, TAMU, LSU, and SMU among others Parrish- 3 star, #143 in the country, offers from Rice and TCU only (that seems odd I will admit) Williams- 3 star, offers from Nebraska, Colorado St, Creighton, Tulane, UTSA
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
Also want to point out that I think Doherty did a very good job as a recruiter his last couple years at SMU, both in recruiting HS players and getting big time transfers. Doherty's failings were at getting the most out of those players and often seeming inept with his coaching. Let's not forget the last 2 years the players Doherty brought in and that many of those guys are thriving with us now under improved system/coaching: Our entire 6 man rotation: Cannen- 4 star, top 100 national player, nice offers, DFW talent Jalen- 3 star, pretty highly recruited, Kimball, one of the top 15-20 or so players in the state Manuel- 3 star, one of the top players in the Houston area, one of the top 15-20 or so players in the state Russell- transfer from KState, DFW HS player and was a top 150 national guy out of HS Williams- transfer from UT, Duncanville and was a top 50 national guy out of HS Giles- transfer from Nevada, Kimball HS player Plus Blaise who had a long list of offers from schools in a bunch of big-time conferences: Big East, B12, B10, ACC, etc. Recruiting wasn't the issue why it was time for Doh to go. That said, LB and crew are taking us to an even greater level there and with on the court results and I am thrilled about it. Pony Up!
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
Parrish is overrated and Williams is a ballhog (although that may be a function of not having much around him in high school and AAU) who admittedly may be better once he gets some talent around him. You can't compare those guys to guys like Moore and Brown who had multiple Big 10 offers, etc. Plus, we brought in a huge upgrade in talent through transfers. AFAIK TCU's one transfer has been Devonta Abron, who has been a disappointment as SMU 86 admits that he isn't even the best player on their team this year.
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49Some of you guys are overrating this years SMU hoops class to date. Its very legit, and bound to get considerably better, but as of now, its a glorified Doherty class. The transfers are good, and I expect we'll add one, maybe even two more in the Spring, probably Frazier
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
Moreira was exactly what we needed. I wasn't that excited about our class until we landed him. But the transfers are what set us apart from TCU
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49
Personally, I am not trying to take anything away from this year's class. I think we have some great prospects coming in and if we can add another high-caliber prospect to the talent we have returning plus our transfers, then watch out. All I am saying is that I think people are discounting the pretty awesome influx of talent Doherty managed in his last 2 years in the program. Some posters don;t seem to understand that it was poor coaching, not poor recruitment of good ball players, where Doherty failed. The 7 players mentioned in my post above are a very nice group that Doh left behind and very DFW area to boot. Now, like I said before, I am ready for Brown and crew to take things to the next level for us. I think he is well on his way via his great coaching, the excitement he has for the program, the national attention we are getting, and the talent that he is bringing in which seems to be trending up (this class and our transfers). Very, very excited about SMU hoops for the first time in a long time.
Re: Tulsa beats TCU 50-49I think folks were very pretty encouraged by doh's recruiting but recognized his failure was on the xs and os and substitutions. All water under the bridge. However well Doh recruited, the godfather is going to do better and maximize those players.
