Mack's WAAAAAAY overrated. Always has been. If SMEW had hung on and kicked his Tar Heels' @sses at Ownby in '94, he never sniffs UT.Digetydog wrote:The last two Heisman Trophys wen to QBs that Mack Brown rejected because they weren't QBs.

The success of players in the Longhorn "Convert To DB" landfill has even led recruiting services to add another category to their rankings. Rivals.com's Jason Brusewitz announced that TDBR, Texas Defensive Back Recruit, would be listed on the website immediately. Currently, it looks like the Oklahoma State Cowboys are in line to land 2014's #1 TDBR, Jamal Wilkinson. Wilkinson's stat line of 4,127 yards passing and 72 total TDs (48 rushing) in 2012 was not well received by Longhorn coaches, with one position coach noting that Wilkinson's 1 to 2 passing TD to rushing TD ratio is a clear sign of poor development potential.
Iowa State's Paul Rhoads reacted to the Rivals news by issuing a statement that he has created an additional spot on his staff for a TDBR consultant. This staff member's sole responsibility is browsing Texas message boards to find out which high school offensive players in the state of Texas have been offered a scholarship by Mack Brown as a defensive back. The TDBR consultant would then quickly notify top recruiter Shane Burnham and Rhoads for an immediate in-house visit with the recruit.

And even though he didn't win a Heisman, it is also worth pointing out that Mack passed on Andrew Luck

Re: Mack Brown and the Heisman!
And how many other D1 coaches didn't offer them at QB?
Just doesn't seem fair to ridicule Mack Brown individually when 150 other coaches made the same mistake.

he also rejected Drew Brees and Nick Foles who both went to Austin Westlake...he's passed on some great talent on a regular basis

Manziel practically begged to go to UT. He went to Aggie because they promised to let him try to play QB. UT wouldn't let him even try.Junior wrote:And how many other D1 coaches didn't offer them at QB?

Re: Mack Brown and the Heisman!
in all fairness, they had the high school player of the year signed as QB. our own GG. if you can predict greatness in HS players that no one else sees, you're in the wrong business. who can honestly say they KNEW with 100% certainty that Manziel was going to be a Hesiman candidate this year. if you say that you knew it coming into the year, you're either lying to us or you may be the greatest talent evaluator ever.Digetydog wrote:Manziel practically begged to go to UT. He also missed out on Rex Burkhead. he wanted him to play safety in college bc he didn't think he was big enough to play RB

Re: Mack Brown and the Heisman!
I don't know how many SMU players were offered if any, but I bet there are not any Kansas State players offered by Texas either.
