mark my words - we wont be anywhere as good as SMU. he will go somewhere small where he can be be a big fish in a small pond so Dad can think he is better then he is, and then he wont get drafted and they will wonder why.

He will be fine and probably have a good career. Remember SMU after next year will not be a BCS school either.

I always wish our guys well; hope he finds a place that is "right" for him. I would not be surprised to see him end up at some FCS program and to become that "big fish" in a smaller pond, as someone sugested. A lot of our guys have done well at FCS schools

If he reads this website very often he probably became convinced that his head coach is worthless and that the assistants intentionally try to recruit talentless players.

I'm really relieved now to know that we have such a plethora of receivers coming in next season that have speed on the outside and great hands that allegedly fit this offense.

Wow! You guys are all negative. Dieter is a great kid. I can't imagine being in his shoes right now. Every negative person on this post/forum should take a look at this from his perspective.

He had a choice - SMU or Notre Dame????

One of the teams is undefeated and going to play Alabama for the National Championship game....Guess What!!! Not SMU.

If your 18/19 years old that must weigh on your decision in the first place! He chose SMU for the play time. He did get play time as a freshman. I went to the games. I saw him try to do everything in his power to prove to the coaches that he deserved more - like he always helped warm up the QB's on the sidelines. ALWAYS! Even CP! He was there...every game. As a freshman. He asked for more time. But we give the seniors more time to play (IMO - some are not worth it) he would have been better.

Okay, can't change the past. He did accept SMU over ND. JJ said he will have difficulty transferring - true as a freshman...probably wants ND...very tough now that they are playing for the national championship.

I personally think the young man and his family are fantastic for selecting SMU over ND. He can get a great education (at either place) and still maybe get some playing time in the new big east (or whatever conference we end up in). ND would honestly have been better for him overall as an athlete but since he is 'slow' he may not have had any play time with them - ever! Even though he is extremely talented and tall. Too many people put other people in stereotypes (maybe no longer with Johnny Football) and will start looking at quality individuals such as Dieter. I hope he stays...I hope he does well later on...

He never had an offer from nd. If he had he would have taken it.. He 'll do fine, just at a smaller football school.

1) He didn't have an ND offer
2) He chose SMU over Kansas
3) Kansas was really bad this year
4) your entire post is invalidated

Players that are good enough to play at notre dame don't transfer after 6 months because they didn't get enough freshman playing time.

If this is about not getting along with Phillips, then fine, but I think that reflects more poorly on Dieter than Phillips.

He wasn't recruited by ND, he was recruited by former ND fatass Charlie Weiss.

Hopefully we wind up being impressed w Phillips effort. So far, though, reinebold is at 3 NFLers and Phillips has the regression of DJ3, the defection of a parade All American and the alleged shenanigans mentioned on rivals under his belt.

very succinctly stated. Deiter was a talent. How does he get less playing time as the year goes on especially when the receivers performed as badly as they did all year? Those are coaching decisions. I don't blame a player for transferring under those circumstances.

We'll replace him with someone better. He's a MAC receiver. I get a kick out of some that like to bash recruiting sites who rate players but then when Parade Magazine lists a kid with marginal offers he's the second coming of Jesus Christ. There's a reason why the nation's coaches yawned when this guy was begging for offers in the last months of the recruiting season
