How did turner single handily get Tulane in the league? You have to vote members into the league just like we were voted into the league. SMU doesn't even have a vote yet.

Re: Thank You Gerald!
80-90% application increase after a bowl game seems very high. Given that the size of the school hasn't changed, guess they were able to be much, much more selective. Guess all those students who started applying, don't like football very much judging by student attendance.

The sudden inclusion of Tulane was the breaking point for the basketball schools.
--No matter if they win or lose their respective RPI would have gone down by scheduling them in the conference.
--Tulane especially since the hurricane has become completely irrelevant in both football and basketball. As anyone attending this year's game could readily see. How many Tulane fans were there? 600?
--Not a single Big East school supported the addition of Tulane, but one--that's right our own SMU.
--Gerald Turner sits on the Knight Commission with the current president of Tulane.
--Gerald Turner was seeking a place for his friend and an ally to improve the academic standards of athletics in the Big East. Something the basketball schools couldn't support. Success in basketball won't permit it. Basketball is too important to allow the confence to start questioning admittance and academics.
That is not logical, Captain.
Makes sense to me.
Who else would have supported Tulane's membership into the conference? I honestly can't think of one!
Orsini would have blocked such an obvious mistake, of course he also would have had a "heads up" on Notre Dame's departure.

Re: Thank You Gerald!
sigh...so much misinformation.
ill focus on the important ones. Just so you know TCU does has more applicants then we do - but not by a multiple. we are around 15k and they are around 20k - I will also add i have heard they are DOWN in applicants this year by 1,000 - is that due to losing a few extra games? no. number of applications are due to a myriad of factors - some sports related but mostly not. We are heads and tails above them in student quality - by about 150 SAT points which is in a different league - proving it is not how many applicants you have but who they are. their 19k applicants are all texas people who cant get in UT - and ours are from all over and are comparing us to USC and Vanderbilt - we end up with a much better student body -
i know personally our administration was not in favor of Tulane and were surprised they got the ask. the big east does not need anyone to be concerned about academic quality. none of this is about academic quality.

What's the difference between an SMU student and a TCU student?
An SMU student could get into TCU.
An SMU student could get into TCU.

1) They aren't that well connected if they thought SMU had a voteMexmustang wrote:They didn't vote, nor were they even advised beforehand--that is what they are claiming. I don't know the rules, and we won't be there (Big East) long enough for me to care enought to find out. All I am relating is what these well connected men have told me. Yes, it is true that I have never trusted Turner, ever since he was runout at Ole Miss, and I served on Pye's board.
2) Of course their presidents are not admitting they voted for Tulane. Their boards would fire them if they did.
Now, the BB schools did not vote on ECU. As a football-only invitee, ECU's invitation was deemed a "football action" and thus the football members had the right to accept or reject on their own.
