Line Selected For East-West Shrine Game
Running Back Fourth Mustang In Four Seasons Chosen For All-Star Contest
Dec. 14, 2012
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU running back Zach Line will play in the 88th East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 19, 2013, the organization announced today.
Line, who was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year this season, leads C-USA with 108 yards per game in league contests and is second in C-USA in rushing (100.6 ypg) in all games. He has 1,207 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on the ground in 2012, and has added 32 receptions for 231 yards. He has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark three times and is just the second Mustang and the fourth player in C-USA history to reach that plateau in at least three seasons. He is the only Mustang with three 1,200-yard seasons.
Line has totaled 4,114 yards rushing and 46 rushing TDs in his career, ranking sixth and third, respectively, among active players, and both marks are second-best in school history. His 4,715 career all-purpose yards are second all-time at SMU and his 276 career points are third.
The Oxford, Mich., native is just the 11th player in school history to earn first-team all-league honors three times.
Line joins an elite list of football greats, such as John Elway, Tom Brady, Brett Favre and 62 NFL Hall of Famers who have played in the East-West Shrine Game, America's longest-running college all-star football game.
Line is the fourth Mustang to play in the East-West Shrine Game in four years, joining current New Orleans Saint punter Thomas Morstead (2009), current Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (2010) and current Washington Redskin receiver Aldrick Robinson (2011).
Each team is led by a current or former NFL coach and staff. This year's coaches are Leeman Bennett and Jerry Glanville. Kick-off is for 4 p.m. at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Line and his SMU teammates face Fresno State in the 2012 Sheraton Hawai`i Bowl on Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) at 7 p.m. CST/3 p.m. HST. The game will be telecast by ESPN from Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

A great honor for a great Mustang.
Is the game televised? I'll watch to see 48 run one more time with a Mustang on his helmet.
