Re: New Houston Football Stadium Renderings
Missed opportunity not bringing in all the local Dallas craft brews and stocking Ford with them. If we're going to be "Dallas's team" it would be nice to sell local Dallas beer. Fill out the last few taps with Shiner and nab a MillerCoors sponsorship. If UP or HP whines, give them the finger and say you're welcome for being a huge contributor to your skyrocketing property values over the last 100 years and for educating hordes of your spoiled children. Would make the offense look better too.

I don't understand the obsession with alcohol, I figured the blvd would satisfy lol. Alcoholics.

Right, because when I think of marketing opportunity, improved fan experience, and additional revenue, it immediately screams alcohol obsession.
Re: New Houston Football Stadium Renderings
Considering the number of people who stay on the Boulevard or leave campus to continue partying, we'd probably see better attendance, too.

Meh I think they stay on the blvd because they're so drunk they have no choice, the only hope: win alot and win big against BCS teams. Hopefully the school will let in some gamedayer students rather than introverted bookworms

So you believe the students don't make it off the boulevard because they are too drunk, but you are worried the school will only admit bookworms?SMU_Alumni11 wrote:Meh I think they stay on the blvd because they're so drunk they have no choice, the only hope: win alot and win big against BCS teams. I don't understand the obsession with selling alcohol at the games.
- Texas Stadium didn't sell beer back in the day, but it was easy to sneak booze into the stadium b/c nobody cared to check.
- At Ownby, it was even easier. Nobody searched anyone and we always snuck in hard liquor.
- Cotton Bowl - Having graduated, my need to get hammered during games had passed, but I don't recall anyone searching anyone.
- This Fall, I finally had the opportunity to see a game at Ford (against the Aggies). Walking in a gate on home side, I so no evidence that they were searching anyone.
For those that want to drink at a game -Stadium Drinking Recipes:
1) Coke + Flask of rum/whiskey
2) Sprite + flask of vodka
3) Hot chocolate + peppermint schnapps

It reminds me a lot of Uconn's stadium. While not as fancy as Ford, Uconn's stadium has great sightlines for fans, plenty of sideline seats, and a minumum of endzone seats (without having an "open" endzone).Stallion wrote:Very nice inside-not a fan of the exterior- lots of quality seating

I've only been in Reliant once but it blows Jerryworld out of the water.
No. It doesn't.
Yeah it does
Having been to several games at both JerryWorld and Reliant, Reliant Stadium is far superior for viewing a football game in a football friendly environment. Now if you want to pay exorbitant ticket prices to sit in a sterile environment, watch pseudo strippers dance around a pole, and actually watch the game on a big screen television instead of watching the action live on the field, Jerryworld is the place to do that.

Cougar King, maybe the beers sales are one of the reasons many fans won't go. Last year, the SMU band was met by mobs of very drunk and threatening fans before the game. It wasn't pleasant and the cops were called in. I like a beer, but maybe it should be limited to a halftime thing?
I love the concept for the new stadium and the idea for keeping the games on campus to sponsor community for the school. Maybe one day there will be something to echo the SMU Boulevard experience on campus and I look forward to it!

Yes, let's keep making the fans do prep work before the games if they want to drink. It's worked great for our attendance so far, right?Digetydog wrote:I don't understand the obsession with selling alcohol at the games.

I was in that band and I never felt threatened by a UH fan. Yeah they were dumb and loud but that's just fans being fans.sponygirl wrote:Cougar King, maybe the beers sales are one of the reasons many fans won't go. Re: New Houston Football Stadium Renderings
That's the problem with the modern mentality that things like marching band have some inherant value other than window dressing for the football game. You get people who don't know anything about sports showing up and not being accustomed to casual fan banter, drunk boasting, etc.
