SMU routs Navy.

Players douse Bennett with Gatorade.

Fans rush the field.

Green Elephant sets new record for beer sold in a single evening.

Tech QB Kliff Kingsbury sees highlights of the SMU defense and fakes an injury so he doesn't have to take a beating the following week.

The WINNING STREAK begins!

Grider - We aren't going to get to the game - but will be following the score. Sooo - the Mustangs NUMBER ONE FAN will just have to scream even louder to make up for our absence. With all the great pre-game and halftime activities we really hate to miss - it should be awesome and generate some real cheering for the team. Beat NAVY!!!!!

SMU 14
Navy 10

SMU gets the win with the opener and the new coach at the helm but I believe it will be an ugly one. There will not be much offense and most of it will be on the ground. So bottom line our defense will carry the momentum for our team. If the defense falters then the score could go south in a hurry. SMU must come out fired up and remain on that high throughout the game. If we get beat it's because we beat ourselves as we've done in the past. Offensive line is going to need to silence their critics and block for Wallis and Charles so we can get something going. I'll be there up top. Good luck boys!

Anyone who knows me knows I am as vocal and dedicated supporter as anyone. And I am as excited and hopeful about the season opener as the next person, but if we win, and anyone rushes the field, that will be embarassing. Yes, it's important to win Bennett's opener. But field rushing should be reserved for monumental upsets, post-season clinching wins, or other big wins over traditionally hated foe (say beating TCU after a long losing streak).

It might be acceptable should we pull a huge upset over Tech the following week. But another cardinal rule is do not plan those kind of celebrations, if they fit the situation, then spontenaity is good.

This Saturday, we are at home and favored to win (by too many in my book) over one of the few opponents that we should probably beat (which does not guarantee a win). Thus, please do not rush the field even if we win by 50.

Diamond M:
Well, well, well....so something needs to be really important to show school spirit? I wish you had half the heart of Rogers. People at SMU make too many excuses about not celebrating, and Rogers is one of the few people that does really care what othe people think about what he does. Grant it, if we beat Navy it probably isn't the greatest victory in SMU history, but why not charge the field and show some excitement. It is Phil's first victory as a MUSTANG. I mean please.
To be quite honest I would be happy if the fans stayed the entire game. You might not need to worry about people charging the field, because there might not be anyone left. Fans seem to complain if the ponies are losing and leave, but it is funny how they leave if they're winning too.
I say tear down the freakin' goal posts!!!!

Please.....I will cry if our fans even consider rushing the field. YEAH for SMU we beat the team with the longest losing streak in D-1.

Tearing down the goalposts if/when we beat Navy would make us the laughing stock of the league. Please wait until we beat Tech the following week, or better yet, let's tear down TCU's goal posts when we beat them. Or even better, let's tear down the goal posts after we beat Tulsa and go undefeated for the season.

I think the best we can do for Navy is to show up early, en masse, and LOUD.

Let's give the team a 10-minute standing ovation after we destroy Navy. I think that'd demonstrate the appropriate support.

I have to agree with Peruna and M on this one... tearing down the goal posts would be so lame for a Navy win. Plus I would rather see the athletic budget go towards recruiting or travel expenses and not field repair.

The only positive thing I see from that would be the evidence that there were actually an adequate number of fans there to achieve such a feat.

With the usual student support SMU has had the past few years, they would be hard pressed just to carry away the kicker's practice net.

Rush the kicking tee? That's hysterical!

Good luck this weekend, Ponies. I wish I could get out there for the game, but the schedule won't allow it. I will be at most of the other home games, and of course I'll be carrying on in grand SMU style Nov. 16 when the Ponies come out here to bury the Miners.

Melvin Williams will get an early jump on the WAC sack race with three takedowns of the Navy QB(s).

If you DO tear down the goal posts (and I hope you don't!), just don't throw 'em up into the Navy section like the Texas Tech fans did against the Aggies last year in Lubbock! Truly embarrassing for the Raider faithful!

I vote for a HUGE ovation from the fans who will still be in the stands, of whom I will be one! The rest of ya'll will be either partying on Greenville Avenue or at the frat houses. How sad.
