Great win last night

Post by CalallenStang »

For as much as the ESPN guys were pumping up Carr for the 2013 Heisman, our defense sure made him look pedestrian. Great job by Mason and those guys on that side of the ball.

The offense helped by getting points in most opportunities they had.

My dad, who saw the Tulsa game in person this year but didn't see much of the rest of the season, was delighted to see how we played but then said "SMU lost to Tulane? And Rice? How?" I didn't have an answer. That is the most frustrating part of this season for me...we have the team to win those games but we didn't. Nice to get the victory in the bowl game to make us all forget about that now.

In the coming days, I'm sure that many of us will try to make sense of this season (myself included). I hope that we can just set that aside for a couple of days and feel good about this win.

One thing I will say - I am going to greatly miss seeing Zach, Margus, JG, T-Reed, and the rest of the seniors in Mustang uniforms. 4 straight bowls is a great accomplishment and really reflects on the effort that the seniors put in during their time on the Hilltop. What a great way for them to go out last night.

Merry Christmas to all.

It's not that complicated. SMU is not that talented so we have to give full effort every week. When we show up, we win and beat teams like TCU, when we don't we lose to teams like Rice and even Tulane. That is precisely why the Tulane loss was so infuriating. There is no excuse for this team losing to Tulane, they just couldn't assume a victory but they did. I've said it and I will say it again, June Jones can flat out coach. We would be very hard pressed to find a better coach. Give him time to prepare, the team to rehab injuries and have him motivated and June Jones is hard to beat. I put it on Rick Hart to reach out to him and keep him motivated. Someone also needs to get through to him on adding young aggressive recruiters that are very well connected in Texas.

The losses to Baylor and Texas A&M have more to do with talent disparity than anything else and that comes down to recruiting.

look i think June can coach - but heaping praise on him is misdirected. Every good win we had this year was delivered on a platter by the defense. every frustrating loss was caused by the offense not executing the simplest of plays when the D served up what should have been a win.

whoever is identifying that talent, getting them here, and coaching them up deserves a big raise. June should take a lesson from them, and also show he still has it by changing and introducing some innovation on offense. and the recruiting thing should be a directive from Hart.

If it takes 3 years to learn, it is the wrong system.

Just watched the game - recorded it due to family obligations last night... It was a SMU knock down drag out Mustang victory! Snow and a SMU win makes for a very nice Christmas!
Merry Christmas Pony Nation!

Agreed! Christmas is better with snow and a win! As for Mason, he's a great coach. Everyone agrees on that. However, JJ is the head coach. And, if you want to just limit the head coach to the offense I thought our offense looked better than any other time all year. LETS JUST ENJOY THIS and hope for a good year next year.
