Margus Hunt as an NFL prospect

Post by Dark Horse »

Did anyone else notice the crawl at the bottom of the screen ... after the mention of each bowl game, it mentioned top NFL prospects. According to Todd McShay, it had Zach Line ranked as the #1 fullback (I'm one of those who thinks he's more than a blocking back, but ...) ... and for Margus Hunt, it had him listed as the #21 defensive end!

WTF? Like there are 20 defensive ends in this year's draft who could even dream of being in his league? I'm not saying he's the best of all of them, because I don't know what the rest of the class looks like, but if he's the 21st-best defensive end in this year's draft, there are some scary players headed to the NFL.

I noticed that. Way too low. Other sites like nfldraftcountdown.com have him in the top 10 of defensive ends. After his combine numbers, he should be a cinch for at least the 2nd round. First round is definitely possible too. Not gonna say he's top 10 or anything, but after Dontari Poe went as high as he did last year, anythings possible. Hunt > Poe X 10.

I thought they said during the game that Margus was the #5 DE prospect on Mel Kiper's board. Usually he and McShay's opinions don't differ that broadly.

I remember hearing #5 DE on Kiper's board as well. Have not seen #21 anywhere, all I can think is #5 DE, #21 overall.

That would seem reasonable to me. Given the importance of his position and his obvious ability to get to the QB, I could see him as high as a mid-to-later 1st round pick, or about where Dallas will select. The Cowboys have a real need at DE so you never know.

How he plays in the senior bowl will be important. Margus does not have amazing numbers, mainly because tackles in a 3-4 aren't suppose to, so that will be held against him. If he puts in a solid performance a the senior bowl (which will be seen as much better competition than cusa) and puts up good combine numbers, is frame, speed, and up side (only played 4 years) will push him into the first round. Nfl teams are always desperate for pass rushers and they over hype/evaluate this position which works in Margus' favor.

He was definitely listed as 21 on espn bottom line. I think that is a product of not putting up big numbers and not playing for a team that gets much attention, but once the combine comes around I think he'll start turning heads in a hurry.

Todd McShay has him as his #21 Defensive End (also has Zach Line as his #1 fullback). Way too low for Margus.

Doesn't Margus have a cousin in the NFL already?
