That was a great article and explains some things I wondered about. Maybe I'm just pumped from the game but I'm excited about SMU's future. That was perhaps the best game SMU's played in twenty some-odd years. Even some things that didn't happen but nearly did makes me feel good about our direction, i.e. Gilbert accurately throwing long and some defensive play. As many sacks as we had we almost had a bunch more. SMU totally dominated a very good team. Congratulations to coach and team for a wonderful game!

No of Jucos signed in last 5 years-by schools that Mexmustang claims "Get it"

SMU 11
TCU 5
Vanderbilt 1 (full qualifier out of high school)
Notre Dame 0
Texas 2
Stanford 0

Who doesn't GET IT again?

The numbers are actually greater because I took it from a list that only tracks signing date signatures-and doesn't include late signings like Stavion Lowe, Chase Hover and others that joined the team in August. You want to talk about non-qualifiers and JUCOs who were non qualifiers in high school-Nope I don't think you do.

Oh and another thing-one of those SMU former commitments Rickey Collins that Mexmustang claims got into TCU because TCU "Gets it" never actually got into TCU and ended up at Midwestern St (see link) probably beause another one of June's old academically borderline recruits couldn't graduate from JUCO. First of all Collins was a non-qualifier out of high school and then apparently a nonqualifier out of JUCO. He's not alone-there are about double digit June Jones signees who were never heard from again after heading to JUCO after failing to qualify out of high school. Very high standards and yet Mexmustang is blaming SMU admission standards? Another example of Mexmustang lighting a torch and throwing it in the fire before getting the full story. He is a Mustang though-a Midwestern St. Mustang.

There is no reason Keivon Gamble couldn't have gotten back into SMU when he signed with TCU. He graduated from JUCO and SMU has signed plenty of kids who barely graduated late from JUCO even if they were non-qualifiers out of high school. SMU waited for at least 3 JUCOs into the final exam of school to see if they could meet very low JUCO admission standards at the time. They didn't and none were eligible for Division 1A in the following season

I don't do it myself for several reasons, but primarily because I have no desire to invest MY time to educate YOU.

I don't need to study up on the NCAA rules, because I don't get on PonyFans purporting to have any special knowledge of NCAA rules, unlike you who make erroneous statements about our admissions processes, the support programs available for our student-athletes, the facade known as SMU's School of Education, etc.

If you want to continue doing that, it's no skin off my back. As far I'm concerned, I have led Stallion to the proverbial water; it is your choice whether or not to drink.
Very interesting. 8)

I don't know if this is true or not, but ND is claiming to be the first school to be ranked #1 at both football AND football team's graduation rate, which I believe was %100. I believe they were right, too.

If this is true, I'm sure ESPN will have a "special" one hour show dedicated only to this story.

Notre Dame has a pipeline that few schools have and that is the CYO/Catholic High School System. The CYO teaches kids the game, the Catholic HS gives them scholarships and prep school eduction, and then ND coaches can call up the AD at any of those schools and say, how do it get so and so to come to the Golden Dome and would you like tickets to an Irish home game.

say what you want about Jones...and we have a whole bunch of folks who are never going to forgive him for at least preparing to bail on SMU, but from where I sit, the players seem to appreciate him. He also seems to do a good job preparing guys for an opportunity to play professionally. Until SMU can start winning games against higher profile opponents, I'm going to hope Jones and his staff continue developing guys who may have been "marginal" BCS talent coming out of H.S. and enjoy seeing more SMU guys in the NFL. I expect we will see more SMU guys on NFL rosters next year and that has to help with recruiting to a place that does not play in a BCS Conference and still can't find 30,000 interested fans

June won't see better recruiting results until he actually resolves to build a staff that can recruit. You'd think if putting guys in the NFL could make up for apathetic recruiting that June would have seen some yield by now since he has put several dozen players into the NFL during his 14 year college coaching career.

Admissions are not the problem... Rumor has it that RGT told JJ he could get in his players "except for convicts."

Funny, I'd argue that UT, Ohio State and Florida have similar assets.

Well Ohio State seems to have a pipeline from Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. Two of their Heisman winners prep- schooled there. When my son decided that skipping school was fun, we took him on the Military Academy tour and Fork Union was one of them and they of course pointed that out.
