Do we owe any exit fees to the Big East?

Keep in mind that the new MWC is closer to the bad WAC right before we left than the good WAC when we first joined. TCU, Utah, and BYU are gone. Utah St. and San Jose St. are in.

I'm not so sure. ESPN reports that Boise St. will have to pay the Big East $5 million to be released. I wouldn't be surprised if we do too.

I'd prefer to be with Boise St., BYU*, SDSU, Air Force, Fresno St., Nevada, and UH + the MWC bottom-feeders than these teams after UConn and Cincy leave:
Temple
Memphis
ECU
Tulane
USF
UCF
*I think the MWC will give BYU a home TV rights deal similar to the one they gave to Boise St.
With the C7 leaving the Big East (plus UConn/Cincy), the MWC is a more attractive option for basketball too. The nBE has Temple and Memphis. The MWC will have SDSU, UNLV, and NM.

According to ESPN, they did not get the TV deal. I don't think BYU will be coming back since this is not a stronger league than when they left.
While Boise State was trying to decide between the MWC and Big East, sources told ESPN that the Broncos were trying to get either league to allow Boise State to retain its home television rights.
Such an arrangement is unheard of for a conference member. No school in any FBS conference retains its home television rights.
With neither conference agreeing to that arrangement, Boise State ultimately chose to remain in the Mountain West because of the MWC's geographic proximity and stability as well as the Big East's instability.

I also think the MWC is screwing around with SDSU by leaking this list. I expect after the appropriate amount of grovelling, SDSU will be allowed back in ahead of or along with some of those schools.

My mistake. The TV deal I was referring to states that Boise St. (along with other MWC teams) will get paid somewhere between 300k - 500k every time they have a nationally-aired game.

Basketball was about to be unbelievable with the "original" NBE. If this MWC happens............meh.

why aren't SDSU and Boise acting in tandem here?

Yes, we would owe exit fees because we have a signed contract on place to join in July 2013. Remember TCU had to pay the BE 5 mil in exit fees even thought they had not entered the conference. ESPN also just announced that the MWC will help Boise pay the BE exit fee.

Ultimately they will; pretty sure SDSU's contract was tied to Boise joining and they wanted more western teams

Re: Houston, SMU, Tulsa and UTEP are the main targets for MW
SMU knew they were entering next round of musical chairs when accepting invite to Big East. Boise didn't join until later, basically being dragged to the party. So not surprised they got cold feet, but SMU needs to stay the course, play hard and win. If SMU when joining, really thought Big East was going to stay in tact, then I don't know what to say.
I would rather be back fill candidate for ACC than in MWC... And if SMU and Houston have a chance at getting the ultimate invite from the PAC 12 at some point, I really think it matters not whether we are in Big East, ACC or MWC.
Actually, SMU and UH have many more options (leverage) if they stay the course, and stay together and head East.
