Re: Poll - What's the Better Choice for SMU
On the Stallion list, he lists Baltimore, its really Annapolis which is pretty much equidistant from Baltimore and DC. So, a trip to Navy you can go to Baltimore (the block is full of strip joints) or DC which has lots of culture. East Carolina trips can, if planned properly, include a trip to nearby Pinehurst for some of the best golf this side of heaven. The only quality trips in MWC are SD, and Las Vegas. Las Vegas is balanced out with Atlantic City (20 minutes from Philly) or New Orleans for sleaze. San Diego is balanced out by Tampa/St. Pete. Without BYU, the MWC is pretty much like Last Call Lucy.

Whatever deal Boise got from MWC, help with exit fee or whatever, SMU and Houston aren't getting - that is the only reason Boise State left. Going to the MWC is a lateral move at best and everything else about it is worse, travel and exposure. Just getting two years of good bball is worth it. That may change but it is the facts as we stand today.

I'm probably not your typical Mustang fan. I'm not impressed by the eastern cities/sites vs the western cities/sites. I look more at the stability of the conference and where the program will be down the road a few years. Also, the more compact the conference the better, especially for the non-football sports. A MWC with Tulsa, UTEP, Houston, Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming and New Mexico are more appealing to me and should be to the athletic department. Throw in BYU and it's no contest.
Re: Poll - What's the Better Choice for SMU
BYU would make any conference more appealing as they are the Mormon ND. But they aren't going back to the MWC as they have a UT/ND complex. "Why should we share?" We aren't going to get the hot chick, but we're still not ready to settle for the ugly one just for stability.

Look at a map of the USA. Plot out the distance from Dallas to Laramie versus the distance from Dallas to Storrs. See the difference? I wouldn't say that the MWC is necessarily the ugly chick.

I agree.SMUstang wrote:I'm probably not your typical Mustang fan. I'm not impressed by the eastern cities/sites vs the western cities/sites. Frankly, SMU does not really have any great options at this point.

Actually most likely if we are in the Big East we would be in a Division and travel most likely would be considerably shorter than in the MWC. If there are Divisions-Tulsa and Southern Miss would likely be added and we would be in a Southwest Airline Division with Memphis, UH, Tulsa, Southern Miss, Tulane, and SMU. Plus Logan Utah, Ft Collins, Laramie, Boise, Colorado Springs, Reno, Hawaii and Fresno are logistically much more difficult than the usual metrpolitan cities of the Big East.

I like your Southwest Airline Division. If it happens. But will Aresco and the other eastern schools go for adding Tulsa and Southern Miss?

At this point it's basically CUSA schools that have all the voting power. And if in the end we are in CUSA but with UAB and Marshall swapped for Temple and Cincinnati, then we are still ahead.SMUstang wrote:I like your Southwest Airline Division. If it happens.
