Cy Barcus Hawaiian Shirt Day

Post by couch 'em »

I'm surprised a great SMU connection to a ubiquitous clothing item doesn't get more credit among alums these days

Cy Barcus (of mustang band and Peruna I fame) helped popularize the hawaiian shirt on the mainland.

In St. Louis we honor Cy during Mardi Gras, with the Barcus Parade, sponsored by Nestles Purina. It started out as the world's largest Dog Parade, and has morphed into the world's largest Pet Parade. It's held two Sundays before MG, along with the Drag Races (yes men wearing dresses and high heels run a 60yd. race). Ya'll come on up to The STL ya hear.

Is this the Cy Barcus that built homes in the Park Cities? Or do I have them confused.
