if the letter incident was accurate, that was totally bogus.

Re: Dieter Transfering
The letter story is a different issue, and it sounds like it was a pretty accurate story.
As for him berating the kids and being verbally abusive, having met him he doesn't seem like that type of coach, and I certainly did not see him behave like that at practice.
The way our other coaches like to teach, it would really surprise me if it were true. I don't think it would be tolerated, and if he was that way, I think he would be pushed out pretty quickly. It would upset the dynamic of the staff. I don't think Bennett types of coaches would succeed on a Jones staff.

JasonB, I am now confused. Are you saying that the word is out on Phillips being abusive or not. Your 2 posts seem to contradict each other. The latter seems like you think it is implausible for him to be abusive and the former seems to show you confirming that he is abusive. Which is it?

Passive aggressive maybe

Re: Dieter Transfering
Interesting that he didn't transfer to a "big time" school. Did he gave any real BCS offers out of high school?
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Dieter Transfering
Kansas was the only BCS offer wasn't it ?
Re: Dieter Transfering
Yes but BCS Buster this year N Illinois offered him. He also had an offer at Bowling Green out of HS as well. Toledo also....
Re: Dieter Transfering
I would see him as a nice possession receiver in a normal offense.

But I haven't seen Phillips yell profanities at people on the practice field and get in their face like Bennett's staff would do. And i don't think that would go over very well with our current staff, so I kind of doubt he is like that, or he wouldn't be here.
Re: Dieter Transfering
Jason, are you an equipment guy/trainer? You seem to have quite a bit of insider knowledge.
How did Phillips react to the fact his WR's were sub-par in practice and games? I am sure he wasn't pleased at all.

Re: Dieter Transfering
When you recruit a QB and turn him into WR expect inconsistently
When you recruit a WR with no other offers who is from a team that throws 8 passes a game and all he did is catch about 20 out patterns the entire year for 10 yards each and has rudimentary technique expect inconsistency
When you recruit a track guy with no other offers who is from a lower division school and try to teach him how to catch a ball to turn him into a big play receiver expect inconsistency
I got an idea let's recruit some better receivers

And as you pointed out, one long ball threat who could hardly catch all year and a QB who could hardly through the long ball. Kind of messes up the primary part of your scheme
