Re: Dieter Transfering
yeah I forgot about the transfer QB who missed spring practice coming off 2 shoulder surgeries and had 3 weeks to learn the Run N Shoot-but you might expect inconsistency

How did Phillips react to the fact his WR's were sub-par in practice and games? I am sure he wasn't pleased at all.
No, no no. But I have attended several of the practices.
Anyone who has been around the coaching staff knows that they are relaxed and laid back. They get on people's case when necessary, but it is the anti-thesis of the PB staff.
I am not saying that either extreme is the "correct" way to go. I am just saying that you don't see people getting ripped to shreds on the practice field. More corrective teaching. Mistakes are pointed out, they just try to teach and run reps. Any coach who came here and ripped players apart would not fit in and I don't think they would be kept around very long.

When you recruit a WR with no other offers who is from a team that throws 8 passes a game and all he did is catch about 20 out patterns the entire year for 10 yards each and has rudimentary technique expect inconsistency
When you recruit a track guy with no other offers who is from a lower division school and try to teach him how to catch a ball to turn him into a big play receiver expect inconsistency
I got an idea let's recruit some better receivers
Totally agree with this. The list of players we recruited at WR I went over in detail in a different thread, but we offered a bunch of kids who were good and performed well in high school, but the reason they committed to us is because they were having difficulty qualifying and they all either dropped out the first semester or went straight to JUCO. The players on our roster this year who were legit good WR recruits were DJ, Stewart, and Guinyard. After that, Fuller, Ace and Lagasse are solid recruits. Sims was well regarded, but was a QB and is learning a new spot. JJ had some decent ratings, but not the offers because everyone knew he would have to change positions.
Given that our starters going into spring are Thompson, Holman, Joseph, and JJ, we do have some decently regarded recruits who should be ready to push them in the spring - Stewart, Guinyard (finally healthy), Ace, Lagasse, and Sims. The incoming frosh might be able to push as well, especially Sanders showing up in the spring. Keep your eye on Buffini too, I know he is a walkon but he is going to earn a scholarship really quick.
I like the situation going into spring, because we have starters who haven't blown anyone away, but some more highly regarded recruits that should push. There is a pretty good chance we will see some changeover at the ourside WR positions, I think.
