Should BE be west of the Rockies?

Post by Water Pony »

I continue to like San Diego State, as a BE member (with, perhaps BB added too). But, in the absence of a BYU and/or AFA being added (both, highly unlikely), this may not be practical or desireable for the Aztecs and the BE.

As a result, a East Carolina blogger argues for a east of Rockies, all sports BE league by adding some marginal schools with no FB tradition. I do not like his eastern, candidate schools, but it forces key questions. What should be the vision and strategy for the BE? What is the package that can be offered to the media?

This guy is clueless. Based on what he is staying, ECU would be better off staying in CUSA.

I agree. He is lowering the media appeal and reveals the weakenness of ECU overall. And, forget Marshall, Old Dominion, Charlotte, etc.

Wasn't ECU the CUSA school that was always begging to add a bunch of small local schools in the East to reduce their travel? I would hope the Big East could aim a little higher than a bunch of start-ups.

I would love to keep SDSU and add Fresno with UNLV (closer to SDSU than Fresno) or UNM for all sports if they can do it financially. The NBE bball could use an upgrade. Football is fine just keeping SDSU football only and waiting for BYU, football only, with Navy. I also don't mind the Tulsa add if that helps keep SDSU. I do believe that we can't weaken the MWC too much or Boise will get the playoff spot every year by winning one or two strong OOC games.
West - SMU, UH, SDSU, FRESNO, UNLV, MEMPHIS, TULANE
East - UC, UCONN, TEMPLE, ECU, USF, UCF, NAVY Football with GONZAGA,WICHTA or CREIGHTON Basketball. (Mamphis would flip to East for Bball).

I do worry about stretching this thing across the Lower 48. If I had my druthers, we'd be the furthest program east with the exception of the AFA. Not sure what candidates that gives you though.

UNLV sounds like they want to improve.
