Re: Adios SDSU
If the Big XII makes a play it will not be for a Texas team, it will be for two or three ACC teams. Those would be FSU, GT, Clemson. This would pay back the SEC for poaching in Texas by poaching in their backyard. The only curve ball in that might be VT so that WVU has a travel partner. However, that might be blocked by the Virginia legislature that forced VT down UVA's throat, and thus it may be that those two schools are joined at the hip for eternity. If that happened, USF, UConn and Cincy would join the ACC. Funny thing, then the ACC looks pretty much like the original BE without Rutgers and with UVA, UNC, NCS, Duke and WF added. At that point with blood in the water the B1G picks up UNC and possibly UVA. The BE would then look like CUSA. CUSA would look like a mixture of the WAC and Sunbelt.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

IMO, we have no chance to get into the Big XIi right now for the reasons East mentions.
As for SDSU, don't let the door hit ya......I could care less. It's freaking SDSU!

Re: Adios SDSU
If the ACC gets raided the remainder members will HAVE to increase their footprint. The only shot at a 5th conference at that point for them will be get outside of just atlantic coast - like maybe Texas.
you might have UVA, VT, Wake, Duke and maybe Miami leftover. Then add Uconn, Cinn, USF, SMU and Houston and you have a pretty dang good conference of ten - then VERY selectively figure out who you can add to get to 12. Keep it smaller on purpose since you wont have as much of a package to split up. second tier football excpet for occasional surge years for someone....but REALLY good basketball.
sooner we get on with this the better
wont help attendence much - we will have to do that as much as we can on our own. I think VT, UVA and Miami (and Houston sorta) would draw pretty well.

This map shows why SMU strategy is what it is- East:

It is a map that uses a dot for every person in the census. Show population density of the US. Demonstrates the market place.

I like the "Texas and east" thinking and would expect the next move should be to extend ECU an all-sports invite

If the ACC gets raided, don't see UVA or VT being in the ACC. Think any leftover of ACC would consist of Boston College, Wake Forest, Miami, maybe Duke.

SMU fans shouldn't take shots at SDSU. They wanted this to work and did everything possible to hold the line until it became impractical due to factors out of their control. They ain't too happy about the MWC either

Perhaps then when that happens those four should join the nBE.LHS81 wrote:gostangs wrote:If the ACC gets raided the remainder members will HAVE to increase their footprint. The only shot at a 5th conference at that point for them will be get outside of just atlantic coast - like maybe Texas.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Of course this means nothing, because once Uconn et.al. are raided the BE becomes CUSA-2 and nobody is watching on either coast.Treadway21 wrote:This map shows why SMU strategy is what it is- East:

Re: Adios SDSU
I agree. I don't blame San Diego State for going back to the MWC, it is probably the most logical move for them at this point. Unless San Diego State managed to convince BYU and/or UNLV and Fresno State to come with them they had to stay. I am just glad that it is over with so that we can all move on, Big East and MWC.Stallion wrote:SMU fans shouldn't take shots at SDSU. You have it right, sir.WE ARE BACK wrote:Crystal Clear:Water Pony wrote:Clarity is good.
Now the next two non-Power Conferences, BE and MWC, will now divide the remaining nation market 75% to 25%. I do not expect SMU and/Houston to be pulled into MWC orbit.
Next move is BE with a focus on retaining UConn and Cincinnati by reinforcing BB appeal.
1) MWC is now the "best of the rest" conference as they are supperior in both Basketball and Football.
2) They are stable now and the Big East is not.
3) Cincy and Uconn will not remain in the conference and when they are gone, we are in Conference USA part 2.
With the BCS bid coming from the MWC yealry coupled with good basketball (could be very good if BYU and Gonzaga join) our choice is obvious. Nobody on the East Coast is going to watch SMU play Temple because it comes on at noon, so I'd like to at least have them watch us as the MWC champion on New Years Day.
Add SMU, UH, BYU and Gonzaga and you have a pretty Salty 16 team league.
I still can't believe all the BE sunshine that remains on this board.
With every new collapse I hear, "OK that's good. We're in good shape."
I imagine when Cincy and UCONN leave, SMU will really be in the driver's seat!!

Re: Adios SDSU
No one is arguing that the Big East is a power conference, but The MWC offers nothing. The Big East has a solid foundation with SMU, Houston, USF, and UCF. UCONN and Cincinnati are gravy. Memphis and Temple are solid in basketball. Navy adds TV eyeballs and as a result TV revenue.

Re: Adios SDSU
Big East is better right now based upon just about any measure you want to chose. Its possible that will change-when it does MWC will be there wanting to add Houston and Dallas markets. Hopefully, when that happens we will be hoping for ACC not MWC.

That is true if the ACC only gets raided by 1 or 2 schools.couch 'em wrote: Of course this means nothing, because once Uconn et.al. are raided the BE becomes CUSA-2 and nobody is watching on either coast.
What do you realistically think the odds of that happening are?
