I think the location of the Mustangs is perfect. When the street is removed and the continuous brick and concrete walk is complete from Binkley to the Stadium, it will be a great spot for photos... as well as Doak Walker Plaza. Let's not put too much emphasis on adorning parking garages lest we end up with a Garage Mahal like BU. In the meantime, I know there is bound to be a low bid contractor who could successfully power wash the front of Moody.

The Mustangs are in a temporary place until the new Frat houses are built and the parking garage is completed on Binkley and Airline. Then the Mustangs will be moved to Binkley. Also, the expansion plans for Moody will change the facade, so there is no need for a face cleaning right now. It would be a waste of money.
What's your source for this information, DiamondM75? It doesn't make sense to dedicate something and then move it.
I have close connections with the people in charge of this project. Since the Carpenters wanted to give the Mustangs to celebrate their 25th wedding aniversary, the university had to accept the statues now. Although this is a temporary place, the Mustangs will be there for several years, until the Frat houses are built and the parking garage is complete. This is probably 2 to 3 years away. If someone wants to give to you now, you accept the gift. If you need the gift at a later date, accept it now, find a place for it, then do the permanent later.
I spoke with a highly placed administrator today at SMU who assured me that the statues will remain in front of Moody Coliseum. Dunno who you're talking to DiamondM75 but my 'source' is dead-on.

Something new. Go to www.smu.edu for the story about it.

The one in front (with the red jersey) doesn't seem to fit in with the rest. Wonder what the sculptor was thinking.

HF, I'm with you on this one. I went by to see the Mustangs after work and they look terrific, but with Moody in the background it just emphasizes how bad the place needs some serious work. Work on the Dedman expansion rubs more salt into the wound. It seems like we can get capital donations for virtually any type of capital expenditure except Moody.
It would be far more impressive to me if Copeland could get the donors together for Moody than was the case for Ford.

MM65,
It just goes to show you that at SMU, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. This does not surprise me. All I know is at the dedication ceremony, after I cut the ribbon and was talking with the real high ups, the plan is to someday move them. Why, I don't know. Will they, I don't know. It is just what they were saying.
I guess in about 5 or 6 years, we will know the winner of this debate.
Just send 'da money.

That was paid for by students (tuition hike). I PROMISE you the tuition won't go back down after the cost is covered. Maybe that money can be used. haha.
