Season Ticket Holder PracticeAny body else go and want to comment. I don't think the staff cares if we pass on info.
My thoughts, both the practice and the q and a was extremely uplifting about the near future for us. While he is very honest about how far behind we are now, LB had lots of good things to say about the current players, the players on board for next year, the fans, the staff, how we are being received by top players, and even the Big East. He does not seemed worried about conference tho he wants it to stay together. He said we would schedule the teams we need to get the RPI where it needs to be with either the conference or non conference schedule. I have not been this high on SMUs basketball future since we lost to Ewing in the NCAAs in 1985. Any one else care to comment. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeGreat experience. Brown throws a LOT at them and is a perfectionist. Commanding presence. Goes crazy when they make mistakes and some of the mistakes seem minor (poor screens, not filling lanes correctly, taking a decent shot when one more pass would have yielded a better shot, in bounding a long pass to Markus Kennedy who isn't going to be able to do much with it when he gets it, risky passes that don't yield an advantage, etc). Demands a lot from these guys mentally - my head was spinning trying to keep up...wants kids to know basketball so they'll know how to play in all situations. In 5 on 5 time, almost never let a return trip happen without stopping play. Really got onto kids who didn't understand but picked them up afterwards...not even close to where he wants them mentally. Said SMU isn't "cool" yet with local kids, said there's a lot of negative recruiting with others saying they'll flunk if they go to SMU (said we have a ton of academic help here to keep kids eligible), said people better get "our [deleted] now" because we're going to be really good fast. Really high on the transfers and the kids coming in. Blaise would be cleared in Feb but didn't sound like he was going to play him this year. Said the starters feel no pressure bc they know there's no one behind them...good players next year would let the existing starters play in more natural positions. He and Jankovich were very personable. Doesn't work on shooting much right now bc there's so much to teach right now. Said Jankovich wants to spend more time on shooting. Said he wants to take the kids to Europe on their next international trip bc there's so much good bball there if he can get it funded. Felt like his kids expect things to go wrong at end of games. Really gets the academic challenges, perception of SMU, said it breaks his heart to see small crowds but understands they have to earn good attendance. Very impressed. Apologized several times for not winning more this year. Almost as impressed with how he gets the big picture as with his coaching.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeI agree with your comments. I was really impressed with LB's coaching style. And his tramina. Notwithstanding his age, he spent most of the practice going up and down the court with the players. He must be in great shape. He was continually in a teaching mode. Telling people what they did wrong, and praising them for what they did right. He tells it like it is to the players and to the fans. I was surprised and pleased with the turnout.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeGlad they did this. Upset they did it at a time when most people had to work though.
Still, a nice touch from the program. I heard it was awesome. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Season Ticket Holder Practice
I was surprised by his stamina too. He can keep this up till he's 80. Rest assured, age ain't a problem which was a relief.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeVery well done event. excitement about the program is at a high. I think this thing will be a tough ticket next year - seriously it could be something we have never seen around here. our students are going to have to step it up to keep up.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeI was unable to attend but I had the pleasure of sitting in on a practice earlier in the year and as a basketball junkie, it was really special to see LB run a practice. He truly is a master teacher of the game. The only frustrating part was knowing that if we had the guys sitting out, we would challenge for the C-USA title this year. Having Markus in the middle would change the whole dynamic of this team.

Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeThanks for the thoughts from practice. It is exciting to hear everyone's input from the event. It really is exciting to think about everything going on around the basketball program. The two things I would like to see changed the most are HS kids still not looking at SMU in a "cool" light, and our attendance.
Re: Season Ticket Holder Practice
He addressed that and said it is changing for us. He thinks we just need one cornerstone player and it will take care if both problems for us. Regarding attendance he said that while he isn't used to not playing in gyms that aren't full, he says he and the team also have to earn fans and haven't yet. A lady spoke up and said while the team doesn't always win, they play hard and are fun to watch. Brown said that that was the best compliment any coach could ask for. A really good way to end the talk. He was great and very positive while not downplaying the challenges. There is no question that in his mind we will get where he wants within a couple of years. Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeI agree, lets wait until next year and see how the crowd and perception changes. The difference between this year and the past few in attendance and enthusiasm (noise) is dramatic. Its getting close to the Sasser days when I was in school with the students being the only difference. As mentioned in other threads, the students aren't showing up and making noise. When I was in school it was an event and everyone wanted to be down on the bleachers. Most games they turned students away from that section.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeI remember the Sasser days and Moody was awesome. You had to get there early to get a place on the bleachers or sit in the upper level. I rate a full Moody as one of the best sporting environments I have been to.

Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeMoody really can be a magical place.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeYou guys are making me feel really old with this "I remember the Sadder days" stuff.
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeSasser / WAC were the good ole days: 12-13 yrs ago. Legit with Herren and exciting games and better talent than CUSA
Re: Season Ticket Holder PracticeSasser, MWC Old? I remember the amazing Gene Phillips and the SWC. In those days Moody was an extremely hostile environment for visiting teams.
