Mays Named Conference USA Player Of The Week For Second Time This Season
Junior transfer leads the league's highest scoring offense in conference games

Jan. 21, 2013

IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Junior transfer Keena Mays was named Conference USA Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 17.5 points to lead the first-place Mustangs to a pair of conference wins and the first 4-0 start to the conference season since the 1999-2000 season, conference officials announced Monday.

Mays scored 25 points, making a career-high six 3-pointers, in SMU's 73-51 win against Rice on Sunday, her sixth game with at least 20 points in nine games played this season. She also had 10 points in a road win at Southern Miss, giving SMU five players with at least 10 points in the same game since Nov. 27, 2010. The Arlington, Texas native had 11 assists, passing out seven at Southern Miss which is the third most in a C-USA game this season. She also recorded five steals and three rebounds in the two games.

The Mustangs, led by Mays' 21.2 points per game, climbed to the top of the league in scoring offense in conference games, scoring 70.8 points per game after scoring 79 and 73 last week. SMU also leads the conference in field goal percentage, 43.4, and 3-point field goal percentage, 45.3, through four conference games. Mays is above 40 percent in both categories in C-USA games and overall.

Mays was also named Madness C-USA player of the week by College Sports Madness, and earned her first Conference USA player of the week award on Dec. 23 after her first three games at SMU. The Mustangs (13-4, 4-0 C-USA) play their next game at Tulsa Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning to Moody Coliseum to host Houston on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. For tickets, call 214-SMU-GAME or visit SMUMustangs.com.

I've only seen her once, but in my limited number of games seen, she is the best women's player I have seen.
Ever.
If you like basketball, get out and see her (and the Ponies, of course). She is awesome.
