there ought to be a deadline after which a School can not rescind a scholarship offer. I propose the end of regular high school season.If a Coach is fired after that date then the school should be required to make a designation at that time whether the school intended to honor ALL or NONE of the extended offers. No picking or choosing after deadline. After the deadline recruit would be entitled to either a full years tuition since scholarship offers are yearly contracts or he would be entitled to a cash equivalency of a full year's tuition.

Makes sense. Leach is a [deleted] - especially if a kid was committed since early Fall. That is not right this late in the game.

1) the player might not make the grades/scores expected when the offer was made;
2) the player might do something horrible (I remember the Dallas Carter Robbery Squad) that would warrant pulling the scholarship;
3) players with offers in hand would be able to shop around while the school was stuck with it's thumb ...
Until the NOI is signed, the offer and the commit is like an engagement ... everyone knows it can be broken. If coaches consistently treat recruits poorly, word gets out.

I agree with this. There is a deadline, it is February 6th when they sign.Digetydog wrote: Until the NOI is signed, there offer and the commit is like an engagement ... everyone knows it can be broken. If coaches consistently treat recruits poorly, word gets out.

Surely they can come up with a better system which lets players, coaches and their parents get to know each other better. While they are at it they need to ease the transfer rules.maybe have a buyout for the player that if he committs to a school and the next coach doesn't honor it then a $20,000 buyout but also a free transfer if the next coach honors the schol but is not a good situation for the player..ie abusive coaches,etc. If a player is risking his health, what with all the concussion/brain injury stuff coming out, then a scholarship isn't going to offset the shortened lifespan or quality of life. Great sport but the injury problem needs to be addressed.....kind of like the gladiators....treated great until they get the "thumbs down" sign and then not so good.

Sort of like the quid pro quo in employment at will. If you can decommit, we can rescind. If they wanted to have an early acceptance date of August 15, that would be great. Of course there would still be lots of kids trying to get qualifying grades and scores. And an early date might save a few jobs since firing the coach would release the committed player from his commitment.

Stallion is on the right path. Just don't know if a "free for all" wouldn't be better--fire your coach and everyone is free to transfer and the new coach is free to let anyone go. With new recruits that haven't found a home, they can have an option of a one-year academic scholarship until they find a new home the following year, if they can't find one in time for fall. There is no right answer. But, how many coaches are fired in the late spring as opposed to the immediate end of the season before the commitments are firmed in February?

I guess we would owe the Tyler Lee kid some cash if that rule were in effect. I guess the commit should be forced to stay with a new coach even if he did not like the new coaches system or staff as well. If not the recruit would have to sit out the next year if he decommitted. I think the rules are fine just how they are. Theses things do not happen in abundance.

It works both ways. A couple of the SMU recruits who except early offers then wait for something better, they think or hope
