NCAA's Ethics Problem

The N.C.A.A. thinks it is the 51st state," Johnson told me. Its investigators regularly solicit the assistance of law enforcement officials, acting as if they have some kind of equal standing. But they don’t. The N.C.A.A. is not a regulatory body. It is merely an association that creates rules designed to prevent its labor force - college football and basketball players - from making any money. Most of its investigations - investigations that are selective, highhanded and a mockery of due process - are aimed at enforcing its dubious rules.

not commenting about recent NCAA ethis issue but I don't see the NCAA doing anything to stop 72 undergraduates from declaring for NFL Draft. If you think you're good enough don't play in College for a degree. Simple as that. Once you realize nobody forces a player to play for a scholarship then the air in that argument goes flat. Really what people complain about is the fact that NFL hasn't started minor leagues. That's not NCAA's problem

I somewhat sympathize with the NCAA investigators. They operate as enforcers to what is essentially a gentlemans agreement.
"Everyone's gonna follow these rules, right?"
"Right!"
"Hey, you're cheating!!"
"So?! Who are you to judge me?"
And then a cat fight ensues.
