Do the Dixie Chicks count as a SMU band?

I seem to remember that at least one of them was a student at SMU when the band formed.

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians definitely had some roots at SMU.

Edie was a student at SMU but dropped out to concentrate on music.

I know that John Tower's daughter convinced her dad to write the check that allowed the Dixie Chicks to make their first album, but I wasn't aware of any SMU connection other than that thin one.

According to Wikipedia, one of them spent 1 year at SMU.
Upon graduation from high school, with Emily still in high school, she spent a year attending college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, from 1988-1989.

That was greatness.

Jack Ingram deserves a mention too, but I'm still partial to Jackopierce. Cary Pierce still lives here in UP.

The Buena Vistas - local surf band icons. 4 different SMU grads played in the band. Started in 1985 when three of the guys were at SMU. One of the founders from SMU is yours truly. Still active.

Speaking of back in the day, my vote for greatest SMU band ever goes to that iconic 70's band "The Joint Effort". What a great band.

Rumor was back in Spring Semester '71 Stephen Stills (Dallas native) was "auditing", a class of one, at Meadows from a visiting Flamenco style guitarist.
