OT: Breaking Applewhite News from 2009

Post by Treadway21 »

Wow, is Texas having a good year or what:

Deloss Dodds: ""Major Applewhite engaged in inappropriate, consensual behavior with an adult student one time during the 2009 Fiesta Bowl."

@KEYESportsBob: Dodds (con-d): "Major admitted his inappropriate conduct and he was disciplined. Major fully accepted his discipline, including counseling"

@Mengus22: Man, PR 101, eh? Texas releases this at 10:30 on the Friday night before the Super Bowl.

@ChuckCarltonDMN: Timing really couldn't be much worse with Applewhite in a key position selling program to recruits just before signing day.

Poor Deloss and Mack.

A little more:

http://blog.chron.com/longhorns/2013/02 ... -incident/
UT’s board of regents will discuss the matter in a specially called Sunday meeting that will include consultation with attorneys.
and
Last month, UT women’s track and field coach announced she was resigning after UT investigated her for what she called a consensual relationship with an adult student-athlete that took place in 2002. Kearney’s attorney, Derek Howard, told CNN he and Kearney were considering filing a gender and race bias lawsuit. Howard suggested male coaches and professors at UT had not been punished for similar relationships, and said he planned to file an open-records request.

In other news I'm sure everyone is interested in, I had a sandwich for lunch and may go for a run tomorrow.

Have fun. Why don't you be productive and go to the basketball game tomorrow?

Can any of the lawyers on here address this?

If the ousted track coach files suit claiming racial and/or gender bias on behalf of the university, couldn't UT be almost forced to fire Applewhite? (Maybe they could hire Vince Young to replace him. Rumor has it he's out of work and needs a job.)

Oh ... as for Texas having such a stellar offseason: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

When bad news absolutely has to be addressed, late Friday is the ideal time. The fact that it's two days before the Super Bowl is as perfect a scenario as UT could ask for.

I thought Major's punishment was pretty severe. Pay frozen for one year and a required one-time session with a counselor.

Student not an athlete. But the track coach thing seems to be the catalyst. Poor Board of Regents get to meet to talk about this instead of going to their Super Bowl Parties.

Must be somewhat serious of a legal matter if they are still concerned about it 4 years later.

Actually there has been a fair amount of reporting on it. News like this does not usually make it onto ponyfans so if you rely on this board for your news it would have been easy to miss.
