DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after an 82-73 win at UTEP, which has now received votes in seven straight polls, to extend SMU's win streak to eight games and improve to 7-0 in Conference USA.

SMU is 16-4 overall, and Keena Mays leads a trio of players averaging at least 10 points per game. The Mustangs are second in the league, scoring 69.4 points per game, and lead the league in conference games with 70.6. SMU is ninth in the NCAA, shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range, and 34th in the country with 11.6 steals per game.

The current eight game win streak is tied for the second longest in school history, shorter than only the 12 game streak during the 1999-00 season, which is also the last time SMU started conference play 7-0. The Mustangs are receiving votes in the AP poll for the first time since Jan. 25, 2010. SMU was 14-4 at the time, and picked up four votes in the coaches' poll a week later.

SMU takes on UAB Thursday in Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Mustangs conclude the homestand against Marshall Sunday at 2 p.m. before playing back-to-back road games. SMU has designated Sunday's game as its annual breast cancer awareness in conjunction with the Play4Kay initiative.

I agree with both. It is great that the girls are doing so well. Our women's team just never got over the hump to really do any post season damage. This year is hopefully the start to something special.

Definitely confusing not to identify which team is being discussed. Once both start to get going it will be even more confusing unless we differentiate between the two.
