If there's someone on the team who could make that switch, it probably would be Acker. Great athlete.

Isn't that somewhat of a testament to the quality of the players that JJ has brought in if a guy who is a senior and hasn't played the position in the 3-4 years he's been on campus (not sure about high school) could now possibly be one of the top 4-6 at a position that requires 4-6 capable starters with all of the recruiting classes that have occurred in the last 4 years? He might be a great athlete, but he hasn't looked like the second coming of "Prime Time"................

I don't think it's an indictment of anything. he's arguably the best athlete on the field. prime time did it back in the day. did that mean the cowboys' WR's sucked? no, just meant he was able to contribute. and as far as i can tell, no one is saying that he'd be our BEST receiver, just that he could contribute.

I bet Acker would be our best WR next year, thats not saying much though considering the WR's on our roster.

Acker is an NFL DB, he will still be a CB an opening day, maybe June will put him in a couple packages.

If Keenan Holman is our opening day starter on the outside, we are in trouble.

i think jeremy johnson is our best WR at this point. thompson is good, but needs to be more consistent. fast, but his hands betray him periodically. joseph showed some good flashes, but now it's 12 games, not sport duty. holman isn't a bad receiver, just needs more consistency there as well.

One would think that at this point in JJ's time at SMU, having quality WR's in a pass first offense should not be an issue................

Acker will probably have some difficulties learning the offense is such short order. And we are better serviced with him at Corner. Despite the usual jokes about receivers, their position does take time and skill to develop. One, Acker has to learn to block and that isn’t something that just happens. If not, opposing teams will know when he is in at receiver that it is a passing play. So he needs to learn routes, reads, formations. and blocking. That is a mighty tough assignment in just one spring.

Too bad we don't still have this guy:

Interesting - this is the first I have seen of a direct quote from Dieter.

Nice find, confirms what we all thought. Reinebold left and he just didn't see eye to eye with Jason Phillips. I won't vilify the kid for leaving.

Bottom line on the receivers still on our roster, they just have to improve for us to make a bowl game again. I hope June opens up the competition. Jeremy Johnson is the only receiver I am comfortable with penciling in, I really hope the other spots are open to competition. Our outside receivers were absolutely awful last year.

Agree with both points. Johnson is the only receiver that showed any consistency last year.

Dieter enrolled early at SMU and immediately made an impact as a “true” freshman. He played in nine games for the Mustangs, starting three, and caught 10 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown, which came against Baylor.

I would say that is a bit of a stretch. I do wish him well at Bowling Green.

Jeremy Johnson was having a great season for a first year starter but went MIA at the end of the season-what was the deal with that?

GG started running for 70 yards on those plays where Johnson was the primary receiver...

Acker won't be playing WR once the season rolls around. If you listen to June's press conference, he said that Acker will play WR in the spring and possibly in fall preseason practices to allow other DBs to get reps at corner while providing competition for the WRs.

JJ knows what he has in Acker as a corner and said that he will be our starting corner when the season begins, even though he'll run some at WR in offseason training.
