But that will be more for Boise and less for the other 11 if my understanding of their special deal is correct.MustangStealth wrote:They are currently at about $12 million per year for tier 1, and I can't find a hard number on tier 2 and 3, but it looks like probably about $20 million total.GiddyUp wrote:What is the MWC getting per school right now?
So based on 12 teams next year it is about 1.5 - 2 million per team.

So if its about revenue, prestige and maintaining local rivalries, why would Uconn pass up an opportunity to stick with the C7 in basketball and pawn it's football off to the highest bidder? The revenue included with sticking with C7 and prestige (in the northeast at least) far outweighs what they will get sticking with the new big east (or whatever our name winds up being). This has been discussed on this board and laughed off but it's a reality...

Cool story, Reed.
Lol I started to post something but it came across as condescending when I read it. It wasn't meant to be so I just deleted it. As has been posted here before...the money and conf affiliation right now doesn't really matter. Winning matters in order to put the program in the best light possible for future expansion.

I hope our basketball program improves to the point that it is such an asset we cannot be ignored. It would be funny that June Jones boosting football to attract the Big East attracted Larry Brown which boosted basketball to attract a power conference. Hopefully football gets it to the next level and we are to the point where football and basketball (Hello RR please keep it going for the women too!) cannot be ignored.

It's higher. The Belt was paid peanuts compared to CUSA or the MWC. Probably 500k or less if the WAC's old deal is any indication.PonySnob wrote:Interesting article in the DMN they UNT is probably adding baseball.....is their new payout in CUSA much higher than the Sunbelt?

Re: Big East gets only $20-23 million a year from NBC??
I tried to find info on their TV deal a while back and it was really tough. The impression I got from the scraps here and there was that the Sunbelt actually got $0 for their TV rights, that increased visibility was their "payment". The conference's revenue came from 2-3 bowl games and NCAA tourney units. That would put the total pool probably less than $2 million, so each school might get $100-$200K once you throw in shares for the bball only members.PonySnob wrote:Interesting article in the DMN they UNT is probably adding baseball.....is their new payout in CUSA much higher than the Sunbelt?

Basically ESPN uses these games as football commercials for their big spotlight NCAA and NFL games anyway. Kind of like the local ABC, NBC and CBS channels all show infommercials during the weekends and late nite now.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

SMU needs to forget about the persuit of money and to focus on what conference is best for the school from an athletic & competitive standpoint. I've said all along that MWC > Big East and I'll stand by that.

Given the new figures from TV deal, I would tend to agree. If Uconn and Cincy leave, then it is even more obvious.West Coast Johnny wrote:SMU needs to forget about the persuit of money and to focus on what conference is best for the school from an athletic & competitive standpoint.
