This is a great move on SMU's part. Retiring the numbers of SMU's greatest players will give an instant sense of history to Ford Stadium.
The numbers retired this year will be:
19 - Eric Dickerson
37 - Doak Walker
73 - Forrest Gregg
80 - Lamar Hunt
87 - Raymond Berry
Hats off to the players who gave up their jersey numbers to help facilitate this tribute.
Khalid Beard gave up #19 in exchange for #40.
Ryan Riddle gave up #80 in exchange for #14.
Judson Davis gave up #73 in exchange for #63.
Damond Blueitt, who wore #87, graduated.
And of course, nobody has been wearing #37.

Re: Retiring numbers
Did Lamar Hunt even play football at SMU? Or is he just the ultimate supportive alumnus of the school?

Re: Retiring numbers
How about one of the quarterbacks who helped put us back on the map -- Mike Romo or Ramon Flanigan?

Re: Retiring numbers
I guess they're retiring a number before every game. Are they going to continue this next year?
If so, how about Jerry Levias? He meant a great deal to football at SMU, and in the Southwest Conference.
