Early Commits
I see that of the 14 four star and 2 five star recruits that SMU has offered for 2014 class, 6 have committed to other schools already.

Re: Early Commits
The new JJ model seems to be to make offers so it looks like they are recruiting but then we'll backfill with the recruits that are thinking about UTSA, UNT, Texas State........or load up on the infamous "diamond in the rough" or "under the radar" recruits.ozfan wrote:I see that of the 14 four star and 2 five star recruits that SMU has offered for 2014 class, 6 have committed to other schools already.

Re: Early Commits
No its a great decision because to get kids to come to a Junior Day in February they have to hit the Road and dial those numbers in December through February to get kids to actually show up at Junior Days. Not all the kids listed on the Rivals and Scout Lists (Scout's is far more comprehensive) will show up but SMU appears to be getting a pretty darn good reception from highly regarded players from top programs. This canvassing of the class will allow them to make earlier, more informed decisions on which players to offer early. Even if we get zero commitments Saturday-the point is that we are canvassing and contacting better recruits early. The issue will be whether we have closers

Re: Early Commits
The effort is there - it is not realistic to expect SMU to out recruit Big 12 schools. I want to see more Juco and transfers on the roster. Now that TCU is in the Big 12 I expect SMU to be the school the Big 12 transfers look at - transfers and Jucos provide added depth and allow the coaches to redshirt more freshmen players who really are not ready to play

Re: Early Commits
yeah, i was being sarcastic. just pointing out that moving up junior day isn't a true sign of more effort, or at least more thought, being put into recruiting.Stallion wrote:No its a great decision because to get kids to come to a Junior Day in February they have to hit the Road and dial those numbers in December through February to get kids to actually show up at Junior Days. This is an interesting comment. Did TCU get a lot of Big-12 transfers in the years before they joined the conference? I'm not familiar with TCU recruiting.

Re: Early Commits
Yes but we have had our share too under June Jones. Next year though TCU is going to be playing 4-5 Division 1A transfers who were very highly recruited out of high school. They sat out last year. There will always be 8-10 highly recruited kids wanting to transfer home every year.

Re: Early Commits
NT filled out a poor class by signing 4 BCS transfers and 5 juco's sometimes some schools have no other options to get playing talent.Stallion wrote:Yes but we have had our share too under June Jones. Re: Early Commits
Does this mean SMU did something right in regards to recruiting?
