Re: UNC Virginia GT B1G
Seems crazy. I figured they would take two of those three - but to go straight to 17 teams?

Re: UNC Virginia GT B1G
I don't know if, politically, UNC and UVa can leave NC State, Duke, Wake, and VT behind. There will be a lot of political pressure on them to stay. UVa, as I've said for months now, could get the state legislature's blessing IF Virginia Tech had its own life raft (read: SEC) and if the SEC took NC State as well, that could alleviate some of the pressure on UNC. I wonder if Duke doesn't replace GT in this scenario before it's all said and done. It's not like GT really brings the Atlanta market to the table, do they?

power play on Notre Dame to go to 17 because both SEC and Big 12 have to respond

SEC will happily take NC State and VT and call it a day- that will give them even more leverage by adding Richmond, DC-Northern Va, Va Beach, and Raleigh-Durham TV markets before their upcoming negotiations with ESPN for the SEC Network- that contract will be MASSIVE.Stallion wrote:power play on Notre Dame to go to 17 because both SEC and Big 12 have to respond
I guess this is when the B12 makes their play for FSU, Clemson, Miami, and whoever is left in the ACC. Louisville? Duke? GT? I could be wrong but the Pac-12 might be kicking themselves for not getting Texas, OU, Oklahoma State, and Tech in the fold when they had the chance.

Doubt B12 would stop at 12 and not take L'ville and/or Miami (or Duke, for that matter). An ACC/BE merger after the dust settles may be our best bet.Pony81 wrote:Big 12 takes Clemson and FSU

I've always said that's the end game- it makes too much sense and would be worth too much money to all parties involved not to do it. May take another 5-10 years, or it could happen in six months. Who the hell knows anymore?Pony81 wrote:PAC12 - Do they raid B12 at some point to take UT, TT, OU, OSU?

Not if the Big 12 can land ACC teams. Look at the marginal 12 programs difference:Pony81 wrote:Big 12 takes Clemson and FSU

Colorado-KSU
Utah-TCU
Oregon State-Baylor
Arizona-KU
Wazzu-ISU
Washington-WVU
USC-FSU
Cal-Clemson
Oregon-Miami (likely to 14)
Stanford-Louisville (likely to 14)
Top to bottom it's hard to say the PAC would have any advantage other than nebulous academics. Football, hoops, tv money, LHN, etc would all keep Bevo home and per the Tech President all 3 non-UT offers were contingent on UT agreeing.
PAC would likely stay at 12.
Re: UNC Virginia GT B1G
This is where it gets real interesting. The Pols in Virginia stuck UVA with VT when they didn't want them going to the ACC. (UVA wanted Syracuse). I think the pols would be hard pressed to do that to UVA again because this time the B!G would just go to the next name on the list and forget UVA. UNC might have a harder sell with leaving NC State behind. Again, it depends on the fragments and how they fly. The Big XII needs to act quickly or it will really be stuck with toaster leavings. If GT is real to the B1G then, the Big XII needs to lock down FSU, U (or VT), and Clemson now. They might want Duke, but Duke won't help your football TV contract. The SEC doesn't want any privates. Thus, VT and NCS might appeal to them. Louisville will not go to SEC (blackballed by KY). They might be a candidate for Big XII. The only SEC question is whether they want another Texas school and if so, who? I don't think that they want one. That leaves the PAC 12 sitting out west playing with themselves. Will they make a move east? There is nothing left out west that they want. SDSU, FSU, SJSU all get blackballed by Cal/UCLA. BYU gets blackballed by Stanford. Boise is not academically on par nor is UNLV. That means they might want to jump to Texas. Schools like SMU and Rice have some tradition, give them entre into Texas (and allow them to visit their rich alums who left CA). But they would demand blood from Rice that they'd upgrade their sports before they'd think of them. The BE/ACC merger is more likely for us. An SMU, Memphis, UConn, Pitt, Syracuse, Wake, Duke, U, UH, Tulane, Louisville, Cincy, Navy, (ND), UCF, USF conference would be pretty good.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Or, Uconn and Cincy simply replace UNC+UVA and we complete the Best of Conf USA-Worst of Big East Merger...Pony81 wrote:Big 12 takes Clemson and FSU

If some combo of UNC/UVa/GT go to the Big Ten, and FSU/Clemson/Louisville/Miami? go to the Big 12, the ACC is done.WE ARE BACK wrote:Or, Uconn and Cincy simply replace UNC+UVA and we complete the Best of Conf USA-Worst of Big East Merger...Pony81 wrote:Big 12 takes Clemson and FSU

Yeah, and there's no shortage of backups if they still won't join. Kansas, Iowa St., and Pitt are all AAU members and fit geographically.Stallion wrote:power play on Notre Dame to go to 17 because both SEC and Big 12 have to respond

We would get into the Big Ten before Iowa State. If UNC/UVA/GT all go, then expect Duke and Pitt to be the backup plans if ND says no, which I don't think they will this time aroundMustangStealth wrote:Yeah, and there's no shortage of backups if they still won't join.
