Re: Montana State announcing SMU added to 2013 schedule
We accommodated BU's needs when there was a shakeup in their conference a couple of years ago. Maybe we are just asking for a reciprocal deal. BU would have been one I would have preferred to keep. But perhaps our generosity a couple of years back is helping us now reduce the OOC schedule to a more manageable level.
MSU isn’t exactly a pushover win. They have mad FCS playoffs multiple times in the last decade.
I would have preferred if we had played through a very challenging OOC schedule next fall. But to be honest, if SMU could win the Big East, it would mean a BSC bowl which is by far more important than getting killed in the OOC schedule.

Coach Coward got what he wanted. 4-8 will look so much better on his resume than 3-9. Though he has lost to 1-AA teams before.

Does anyone have any idea what Hart is actually doing? If anything? Is he visible at least around campus, since he isn't in the media?

Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we hired coach "6 wins and a free trip to Hawaii" Jones.

I wonder this myself. Del Conte at TCU is everywhere - on campus, speaking engagements, you name it. Not saying he is moving mountains or anything but he certainly puts himself out there and is very accessible.

We've got Texas A&M, TCU, and Texas Tech - that's all we need for next year. Be glad about who we ARE playing rather than rant/gripe/moan about who we're not playing. Positivity!

And, like clockwork, the honeymoon starts to fade. Is there a fanbase with a greater propensity for whine and cheese than SMU? Unbelievable.

This is sad if it is the Baylor game that is dropped, my son and I were planning to attend the Baylor game along with eight others coming in from Midland. That probably will not happen now, I will still try to make the game.
GO MUSTANGS!

Pretty sure it was Bennett, not JJ, who scheduled the Baylor and A&M games, and getting out of at least one of the non-conference games makes sense. Personally, I'd vote for A&M, but whatever. I'd like to see Baylor stay on the schedule, with games against TCU and some combination of Rice, UTEP, Colorado State (sister and brother-in-law went there and live 20 minutes from CSU campus), Tulsa, New Mexico, and maybe a couple of service academies. No guaranteed wins, no guaranteed losses, but competitive games every week.

If they do this then I expect June not to complain about attendance. No one is going to waste their time watching SMU play teams they have never heard of or don't care about.
The Baylor game at Ford a few years ago was well attended. The only way to get a real collegiate atmosphere in Ford is to have games against old SWC teams. Otherwise it is a morgue.

June will continue to complain about attendance because he thinks he's done enough to have the stadium filled every week.

This is a good point. If SMU was the decision maker in this then he has given up any sliver of a right to complain about attendance. I did not think he had much of a basis to complain about attendance anyway (given performance), but this completely kills it.

I'm assuming they'll make this snoozer the parents weekend game in an effort to get a few more warm bodies in the stands. Hopefully the weather is beautiful and we bus in a bunch of kids for charity. I'm pissed about it, we all are, but playing Tech, Baylor, A&M, and TCU out of conference in one season is a lot.

maybe I should start a new topic but Cincinnati is desperately trying to get out of the Big East. My take on this is because schools like SMU are too low on the interest meter. Winning a few OOC big games now or never is what might save our football program. We are already expected to lose OOC but not trying is even worst. Look at TCU a few years back, by scheduling and beating some big schools they landed in a conference making $27 million versus SMU at $2 million a year. Our future looks bleak and a win (or lost) over no name school is a wasted opportunity.

I think Cincy may be stuck regardless. If the B10 takes UVA and UNC then the dominos start falling: VT and NC State to the SEC, and FSU, Miami, Clemson and Georgia Tech to the B12.
EDIT: if B12 wanted to go to 16, they could add Louisville and one other school, which might be Cincy. Have to think BYU might be a more attractive candidate though.
