We couldn't afford to take the whole band and spirit squads...........
This game could be like the Army game all over again. What does MSU have to lose? Play the best competition you can and take aim at the devils you know (Baylor, TCU, Tech) versus the devils you don't. Mediocre bowls amount to "rewards for the kids". If you beat Baylor/TCU/Tech, you deserve that reward...if you get flattened by all of them and thrashed in conference, you don't. We are dumping money (millions) and traditional rivalries for what amounts to an off-chance at a participation trophy for the kids. Yuck.

Nothing can be done about it. We're in the participation trophy generation. My truly trophies as a kid were from tennis tournaments where only 1st and 2nd got anything at all. Now you get one for signing up for most sports.
You should Dump MSU and play a Real FCS team, NDSU Bison! 2 time national champs. NDSU has been to frisco texas the past 2 seasons for a title game with 15,000-20,000 fans. We at least would bring some fans down.
MSU bought out NDSU because they were afraid of us, so help us stick it to them.

What happened you get sick of beating up on Minnesota?
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

I jumped to your athletic website out of curiosity, based on the videos I watched it seems the students are pretty passionate about the football team. Can they come teach SMU students about passion for Mustang athletics?
The only way SMU students are going to give a [deleted] about their team is if we're nationally relevant and it's something they can brag about to their friends at TCU, Texas, Vandy, etc. After we beat TCU in 2011 and were on the verge of being ranked we played UCF at the next home game and the student section was as sparse as usual on a beautiful day. Oh, but wait, the Rangers were playing that night. Truth is, more often than not, students would rather go watch the 2:30 SEC game on CBS or get slammed at Barley House than watch SMU play UCF or Cincinnati or UConn at Ford. how do you change that?

Take away their TV's and cars !
Son, you're grounded. No Lamborghini until after the football game.

Unfortunately, Barley House is in walking (crawling) distance of campus.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Well if SMU students and alumni feel that way then SMU will be headed to dustheap of College Football History. Nobody gives a [deleted] about SMU's excuses

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Waco paper had an article on the game today and it said that the 2014 stadium opener vs SMU is still on, but that our AD is scrambling to find a 12th game on short notice. AD didn't sound thrilled about it getting cancelled, but a 3rd non con home game should bring some cash.
Longtime wrote:Just stop with the whole "we could be more competitive with Baylor" notion. Did anyone SEE last year's game? Baylor is light years ahead of us athletically. Art Briles has been stockpiling speed in recruiting and he's made Baylor a home for players who've gotten in trouble at other big programs. We'll be lucky to stay on the field with them.
Easy Longtime. With talk like that, ponyboy will soon label you as a horrible smu fan with a loser mentality.
