J.R. Richardson injured again
After spending months in rehab to recover from a torn ACL in his left knee, SMU cornerback J.R. Richardson is unable to work out again, this time because of a protective boot on his left foot and ankle.
Richardson suffered strained ankle ligaments Monday when doing one-on-one drills in preparation for the Mustangs' spring workouts.
"I was covering (Jeremy Johnson)," he said. "Well, first I was going against Der'Rikk Thompson, but then (Johnson) started talking at me, so I went to go against him.
"We matched up twice, and he made a catch on the first one. So the second time, he's still talking and I go to get him again. He ran a straight 'go' route, and when the pass got there, I jumped with him. I still don't have the strength in my leg that I did (before the knee injury), so when I landed, my ankle kind of buckled."
Richardson said he initially feared a more severe injury, as he was unable to walk at all Tuesday without the protective boot. He said he was able to walk a little without the boot Wednesday, and expects to be able to ditch the boot entirely sometime next week.
Ironically, Richardson said he likely was helped by the fact that he has had multiple ankle sprains in the past.
"The doctor said if it happened to anybody else, they might have broken (the ankle)," he said. "But I have so much scar tissue in there ... and it turned out to be a good thing this one time."
Richardson said he fully expects to be be ready to take part in the Mustangs' spring workouts, which start in March.

What a shame. I hope J.R. gets back to 100% ASAP!

No kidding. So glad it's not as bad as it could have been, and that it's not his knee again.SMU89 wrote:Didn't like reading that subject line...glad he is going to be OK

Re: J.R. Richardson injured again
If his knee is still not 100% maybe the coaching/training staff should limit his practice time in spring ball. It never helps to rush back from an injury just to get re-injured and we are going to need him to be a force next season.

Could be lots of chances for the young DB's to get reps this spring with Acker playing WR if they will limit JR's reps as well.
