Zach Line at Combine

Post by PonyFan »

26 reps on the bench is awesome.

Then ran a 4.81 on his first attempt at the 40. Hope he knocks off a couple of tenths on his second try.

He just ran again and NFL.com didn't post his second time. Anyone know what he ran?

Most of the "experts" out there are ranking Line as the No. 1 fullback, as opposed to a traditional running back.

The Dallas Cowboys picked Shaun Chappas of Georgia in the seventh round of the 2011 draft, and he was slower (4.91) and did fewer reps (23), although he was bigger (6-2, 247). He was pretty unimpressive in practices I saw, but made the team and now is a member of the Detroit Lions.

At last year's Combine, four fullbacks ran faster than Zach's 4.84, starting with someone named Evan Rodriguez, although it looks like he's more of a fullback/tight end hybrid for the Chicago Bears. Of the top five performing fullbacks at last year's Combine, none matched his performance on the bench press.

I think Zack should be the #1 fullback in this year's draft as he has proved to be a quality runner and blocker who is a very strong tough football player. 100% chance he is a special teams player on kick offs for whoever he plays for this year.

Zach Line is just a good football player. He doesn't standout in one category, but he's consistent, tough & versatile. He'll be on a roster.

Yea i was texting him during the combine. He was telling me how he felt like S#@T the whole time. He said he felt sluggish all day. No worries though, he still has pro day to prove his speed to the world when he is healthy. Good luck Zach! :)

The combine is but one aspect of NFL recruiting. Anyone who's worth a damn has already seen Zach play when it matters, and not just against CUSA teams but against Baylor, A&M, TCU, Texas Tech, etc. He will be fine.

i watched him while he was doing the 40. They were talking about him being a Le'Ron McClain-type of player. A fullback whom you can trust later in the game when you're trying to milk the clock or will get that one or two yards you need in a short situation. They seemed to think he could turn into a contributor given his size and versatility, given that he had 70+ receptions as well. The one thing I thought was interesting was that they didn't speak to his special team contributions.

I think Zack will find a home, but I think he needs to put up better numbers in his pro-day. His bench was good, but his other numbers were very low/slow. I think his first 20yd shuttle was in the 4.7 range before they took it off (I guess when he pulled out) … 4.7+ is slow. The reason why I say that is because the average FB in the NFL is 250+, at 232 I’m not sure anyone can take the pounding or be able to move the level of player you will face. He will not be a featured back … so the question might be, at 250+ what will his numbers be, how will he move?

There are a lot of big boys that can move, run, and block. No doubt some DL boys will drop some pounds and convert over to FB. Look at the kid from UCF (the DE who was 2-wice D-player of the year), and is now the FB for the 49er’s at 250+. That’s why I think Spike has as good if not better chance of playing FB in the NFL then Zack, and we all know Spike can play special teams with the best of them. There is a lot of interest in the NFL with Spike at FB

I hope whatever had him under the weather clears up, and he gets another 4-5 weeks of quality work-outs before pro-day, and he tears it up. Zack has a lot of things you can’t measure and coach … starting with a warriors heart/mentality and extremely coachable … He will find a home … I just want him to show better and eliminate the chance he slips through the cracks, because his numbers are so-so. Scouts and organizations can be very fickled when it comes to that sometimes. One of the most important numbers for Zack IMO is weight … I really think he will need to be a 248-250+ guy.
