SMU should go to a bowl game with this game added to the schedule.

Who do you see as the 6 wins?

If we keep up the home dominance in conference games I could see us getting to 6. Can't afford any slip-ups though because unlike last season there isn't enough junk on the schedule to make up for losing a game that we should win.

Better check with JJ and see which games he has penciled in as losses

don't take those guys too lightly; they run the option pretty well and have given South Carolina fits when they have played

I would love to see Wofford beat Baylor showing some at SMU athletic department that some teams can step up to the challenge.

Miami used the ghetto edge to do it. We need to find our gimmick.
I say take the existing elitist rich SMU stereotype and pair it with the similar rapper "look at my money" mentality.
Take those "SMU We're not snobs we're just better than you" T-shirts and replace the BMW symbol with the Dallas skyline and a Dallas message
I am sure you are joking, but I will disown my alma mater in a heartbeat if this actually happens.

The next year TCU was 7-4 during the regular season so the BS that June has to win big before we can increase our attendance doesn't hold water. You guys can come up with every excuse in the book. The only fact that matters is SMU alumni, students and friends don't support the program. I can count on one hand the number of alumni from my era that routinely go to SMU Football games. If you substract our opponents and June's Bus Brigade SMU has about 15,000 fans. TCU has more 2 1/2 times more season ticket holders
SMU has never, for as long as I have been following SMU, made a concerted effort to reach out to the Dallas Metro area and promote SMU athletics. The only exception was during the Ross Potts/Brad Thomas Days but they were giving away tickets but they were marketing the SMU brand.
When it comes to the lecture series and other non athletic events, SMU seems to have no problem marketing those type of events. I have friends, who are not SMU donors, alumni, etc.. attend these type of events and will tell you when the next one is and what it is about or who is speaking. These same friends are also sports fans but they could not tell you when the next SMU football or basketball game is..
In all honestly, I don't think SMU really cares to market the football or basketball team cause they think it might "ruin" their reputation as a highly regarded academic school. If anything IMO, there is apart of the problem in regards to the turned up nose, a bunch of snobs reputation SMU suffers from.
I guess you dont live in Dallas b/c they did a pretty good job this year on radio and billboards - but we lost to Rice and Tulane so it didnt really help.
Not allowed to give away free tickets anymore per Ncaa attendance requirements.. And the only team we have beaten that anyone cares about around here is TCU..

Hopefully my disagreement on this doesn't throw anyone into a frenzy but I don't think killing the country club mentality is the right thing to do. I think there should be a mix, it shouldn't be one thing or the other. Alot of those country clubbers I imagine or big time donors and make sure they are still welcome and have a spot they can continue to enjoy is something that should be maintain. I think there should be segmentation and the corral (or any like minded events) should be in the middle so it's good mixing ground. This is an overall strategy suggestions, implementation would be difficult so I'm not acting as if this were easy.

So you want to segregate each cultural group into seperate but equal facilities. Genius.

Re: Montana State announcing SMU added to 2013 schedule
I don't think making the "big time donors" feel welcome is really what needs to be focused on when trying to broaden our fanbase. For one, the group of "big time donors" is a pretty small group of people that you claim we should cater to. Secondly, I am fairly certain that - insert name of pretty much any school in the FBS here- has plenty of big name donors that happily attend games in their box without being concerned that the entire experience isn't focused on making it a luxury event. It's a football game, man. The big money people are always going to have an avenue for a nice experience.
We are the only school out there with a fanbase that thinks we should actually highlight our elitism as a way of improving things. Crazy.
