No Joy In Mudville Tonight

Post by AusTxPony »

Can any of you football gurus kind of summarize where my Mustangs stand now. Next year will be different, so I am mainly talking about 2014 (if projected teams remain). Football - Somewhat better than the CUSA it would seem.
Basketball - Way better than CUSA, yes?
Travel - Not too different, I like the idea of an East Coast trip.
Playoffs - For the NBE, it's going to be tough to land ahead of Boise or lesser league with someone who runs the table.
Contract - Slightly better than before, but not nearly what we had hoped for. How much is it a year? Do we get any of the buyout money? What do we owe CUSA? How about the Tournament credits?
League - What will be our conference name?
In Summary - Sightly better than the current status?

All of this assumes no more teams leave, but that's unlikely.

Football - Somewhat better than the CUSA it would seem. Cincinatti is a boost, and we will lose some of the dead wood (Rice, UAB). So somewhat better overall.

Basketball - Way better than CUSA, yes? I wouldn't say way better. We would go from a 1-2 bid league to maybe a 3-4 bid league, on par with the MWC.

Travel - Not too different, I like the idea of an East Coast trip.

Playoffs - For the NBE, it's going to be tough to land ahead of Boise or lesser league with someone who runs the table. This is a tossup I think between the MWC and Big East champions. Schedule strength will be similar, so it will come down to who has the best season year in and year out. Right now that looks like Boise, but 1 loss is all it takes to knock them out of that "BCS Buster" spot.

Contract - Slightly better than before, but not nearly what we had hoped for. How much is it a year? Do we get any of the buyout money? What do we owe CUSA? How about the Tournament credits? It looks like we will end up at about $2 million per year when you add Tier1/2/3. That is significantly better than CUSA, but still way below the big leagues. I believe we will be entitled to some portion of the buyout money for teams that leave after we join. We owe CUSA a manageable exit fee. We will likely share in past Big East tournament credits because of the deferred payout system they use, but who knows what exact arrangements will be made with the leaving teams.

League - What will be our conference name? I think we will keep the Big East name.

In Summary - Sightly better than the current status? Yes, slightly better. Lightyears ahead of the future CUSA though.
