"SMU has a choice of being invited to the B1G or achieves academic parity with the U. of Chicago?

I went to UChicago for graduate school (hence the "Maroons" in my screen name), and it really is a special place.
I went to Yale for graduate school because a SMU Diploma means something.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

They have a vote on who can join the CIC, and the Big Ten will not admit anyone that doesn't get admitted to the CIC

Ok. That makes sense. This discussion is purely academic, then.

Do not believe that admission to CIC requires a unanimous vote so they do not have a veto. Is that correct?

I was told it's a 3/4 vote that is required but I'm not very sure that that is correct at all. Could be simple majority, could be unanimous. Either way, UChicago has a vote in the process and has enormous political power beyond that vote as well.

All of the UAA schools are. I am at another UAA school for graduate school, and I absolutely love it. I love big-time college sports but there is a part of me that really wishes that college sports would be similar to that of the UAA schools, where coaches recruit with academics and sports are an auxiliary part of the student-athlete experience

UAA is the University Athletic Association, the Ivy League of Division III. It includes NYU, UChicago, Washington University in St. Louis, Emory, Rochester, Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon, and Case Western Reserve. All are major research universities. All are AAU members (the UAA is the only conference in America to be made up exclusively of AAU member schools). All are fantastic places to get an education.

Which one are you attending?

Smart people don't say "THE hoi polo", do they? "Hoi" means "the" and "polloi" means people. People who go to the U of Chicago know this.

Wouldn't you say that the usage with 'the', while technically redundant, is kind of like when one might pronounce "forte", meaning 'strength' as 'for-tay' like the musical term instead of the correct way, as "fort"? It is wrong but so accepted it is now right?
"I think Couchem is right."

Re: Athlon: SMU a Big10 target
Northwestern, Michigan and Illinois (U of I urbana should be ranked higher in that silly us news list are the only schools ahead of SMU. Ohio State is ranked simply because of its size. Iowa? are u kidding? Iowa State does more research and has a higher average SAT score student body or how about children of the corn state Indiana? NEVER and I put Nebraska right up with there OU, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech in that if after repeated attempts at trying to achieve a good SAT score you still have a low scores then please apply as its likely you will be accepted.
Oh, almost forgot shower pedophilia state; no way PSU has better students than SMU. Research programs yes but students no.
Just the facts.

Yes, the only thing you need to know when picking a college is the average SAT score...
