Start with the Lou Holtz quote (revamped for us)

"You don't have to be Southern. You don't have to be Methodist. ..."

Needs a strong "finish" with maybe a graphic/collage of the previously posted photos of various demographics.

Talk amongst yourselves.

I know we've been down this road before, BUT the most negative thing between Dallas Support and SMU is the DMN. They do not treat us like the Home team (see Austin, Waco, Lubbock, and even FW) and that hurts us hugely. Will that change? With some success, maybe Larry Brown can do it. June couldn't. Heck, Austin does better for Texas State down the road, than the DMN does for SMU. And check out the SA papers for UTSA.

I know one has to reference "back in the day" - but SMU was the talk of the town and the heart of the DMN sports page... action shots, player photos, features, columns, interviews, cartoons, extensive game previews - remember the photo frame feature that would diagram the progression of a big play? player names pasted in with path of the runner/receiver - always big front page of sports section on game reporting.
Young people who never saw this type coverage would be blown away by how extensive the reporting on SMU was. Still have a lot of Times Herald and DMN sports pages.

Not just a DMN problem. WFAA's Saturday 10:00 pm sports college basketball covered only the Big12 which started out with none other than TCU losing big to Kansas. I realize Kansas is ranked in the top 10. But they did include every single big 12 score with highlights from several of the matchups. Nothing, not even just a score or acknowledgement that SMU even had a game. I mean if you are going to cover the score of West Virginia is it really a stretch to cover the home team? Total spineless BS if you ask me. We are the home team. Nobody else is.

I too am saddened by the lack of press and PR SMU receives. Yep, back in the day, we got quite a lot of coverage. I left southern California to go to SMU. It seemed a good part of Dallas, and well supported by the city. SMU has to make a splash again.

Should have played Baylor. There are not many legitimate justifications for dropping a home game against a B12 team. Especially an old SWC rival. SMU had set up their most exciting schedule since the SWC died and the first think your admin or coach does is chip away at it. I found that to be disappointing.

We don't play top tier sports, we don't get top tier coverage. Just like the other "home" teams around town, like U of Dallas

Wow Coach'em you are now part of the problem. You can not tell the difference between Division III and Division I. SMU is the only Division I home team in Dallas. Too hard to comprehend for you?

Come back to reality. To the average media consuming person in Dallas if we aren't playing the UT, A&M, OU tier of teams we might as well be division III. Nobody has heard of, or cares about, beating teams like Tulsa or Eastern Carolina or Tulane.

If you think just because we have the FBS title, or that we were in the SWC TWENTY YEARS AGO people consider us in the top level of college athletics then YOU are the problem and don't understand how far down the toilet we are.

BCS-tier is the new Division I. We aren't in it.

Please remember that anyone who really remembers us playing teams that matter is 40+ years old.

Texas A&M plays Sam Houston St next year and has Lamar on their schedule in 2014. We play Texas A&M, TCU and Texas Tech next year. You just said that those are top tier because they are all in the Jackwipe BCS. Which is it Coach'em?

No paper covers a "home team." Papers cover teams that will sell papers, just like TV networks cover teams that will bring viewers. As long as it is a business that is run for a profit, the dollar governs everything.

Sounds like free market to me: You are hereby ordered to cover something and expend funds to print information about something nobody cares about, doesn't sell papers, won't move product, and won't boost our membership.

Of course you do. Sounds like just an easy cop out to me. It is ok for A&M to play Lamar but not ok for SMU to play Montana State? Ok then. Spineless , over indulged fan. I will not root for my team unless it is easy and convenient to do so.
