I remember sitting in Texas Stadium and thinking that the ball looked like it was moving in slow motion towards the goalpost.

Yup, they are sharp with the royal blue. Might look even a little better with a red helmet, and white pony decal. :)

BTW, is that the same kicker that barely missed a 50 or so yard field goal when we tied Arkansas in 82. That may have been the best overall game I've ever seen person.

I remember that game also, it was kind of a downer even though we won. Under major probation that year, SMU was bowl ineligble, and the goal was to go undefeated. In my opinion, when we lost to Arizona the team lost focus, and was never the same. It was great to pound those stinking  Longhorns 44-14 though! And yes..... THOSE uniforms looked great!!!

I, also, was at that game. Do you think Brandy might have some eligibility left?
This reminds me of that great Alex Karras quote after Tom Dempsey lined up on the 37 and kicked a field goal of 63 yards for the NFL's longest field goal. Karras said " I've seen lots of guys kick field goals fom there. Just never in that direction".

I was wondering about your math until I remembered the pro goal posts were on the goal line back then. Dempsey had a deformed foot, and wore a shoe which made it look like a block.

I remember the game. And yes, the best part of the season was kicking texas' butt. That game alone made the whole year.

Go Ponies!

Tom Dempsey had a missing hand as well and was an active line man and made tackles. without a hand to grab. he was both a kicker and a lineman. the good old days
