simply a matter of contract law. The newbees never get jack-that's the way it always is. Usually there is a probationary period before new schools are entitled to share of conference revenue. SMU hasn't done anything to earn revenue from past TV, Bowl, BB Tournament credits so I don't know why anyone should be surprised

Everyone [deleted] about our new no-name conference fails to realize that it's the best option we have right now. The Big 12 and SEC aren't calling us

Hey we paid and were never even a member...

Yea but you were moving on to better things. We are moving back to our old crappy bush league conference.

I know...feel for you guys but you are stuck. Just win and win a lot and do it quickly!

That's just it... I don't think anyone here is thinking we are going to any of the power 5 anytime soon. MWC is now a superior conference and it really isn't that close anymore. So we need to join MWC with Houston, because if that happened it would win the BCS seat 8 or 9 out of 10 years. The obvious answer is to win that conf yearly, play and god forbid beat the big boys and earn our way into a real conference like they did in ft worth. You don't get there by hoping someone on the east coast watches you take out Temple at noon. Instead you make a couple trips to the fiesta and rose bowl so that you are wanted. I just can't see how it makes sense to basically pay out money to hop aboard a sinking unnamed ship when the MWC gives you a better opportunity to become relevant. Slowly everyone is realizing this, just hope our silent leadership does something about this.

i agree that it's better than where we were, but to give the impression to the rest of the nation that no one knows what the hell is going on is embarrassing.

I am still baffled how we could have done better. The first choice we made was to join the Big East when invited at which time most on this board were thrilled. The next choice was to stick with the East/Central rather than the West (been there, done that). Where was the choice other than those two? CUSA???? MAC???? I don't get the whining. It's an f-ing shame, but we didn't get a vote. Let's make the best of it and keep winning and maybe we will get a shot. Next year will be a trial, but I think we have a better chance to go undefeated at some future date in this conference rather than the MWC. Plus, I believe the MWC option will always be there, if it exists now.

Yes. We moved forward. Not by as much as we thought we would have, but a bunch of this was out of our control. Retrospect is always 20-20.

As you say, the MWC will take us anytime, and for those complaining we are not moving, Houston is standing pat as well, so it is not just our administration thinks it is the best course of action at this point in time.

Out of curiosity, was Turner the president to lead us through the southwest to WAC to CUSA? If so, he should be a pro at this conference realignment stuff now and we could use some of that experience to get the best deal possible.

Both of those were the conference blowing up and us going to the only conference who wants us. Not sure it applies

The Mountain West truly sucks. We'll be in a conference with three more BCS schools that got hosed, UConn, Cincy and Temple. We'll be in an east/central time zone conference instead of a mountain/pacific time zone conference. The deck chairs are still being rearranged. The Big XII can't stay at 11. They have to add one to five schools, to prevent their conference from being fileted. And the Longhorn network needs TV sets. The ACC needs to shore itself up or its looking at some huge defections, and UConn and Cincy don't do it for them. The B1G is certainly thinking of new targets for its TV network. Texas, Virginia, Georgia and North Carolina come to mind. The PAC 12 is pretty secure. But they may get some pressure from their network partners to add some central time zone members. Not a lot of candidates unless they raid the Big XII or go with Big East schools. Which is why the Big XII needs to shore up its flank. Then you have the SEC sitting their trying to decide whether it needs to expand at all. We are not anyone's first choice, but we may be the date someone decides to go home with at last call. It will take some luck, greed and TV network politics. Right now ESPN, Fox, CBS and NBC are having a sword fight. They will be the ones who decide where the bodies get dumped.

East, I so totally agree with your assessment. We need to weather the storm with Larry Brown and JJ. Our next football HC hire is probably the most important hire in our history. That guy will have to bring us to the table along with a successful Bball program by LB, et.al. We are right there with our paws on the table begging for a steak, we just have to take the leap up. I feel certain that Turner and Co. are in touch with all the possibilities you have outlined promoting our worth. Down at our level we have to keep supporting our teams, financially and with attendance and we need a successful PR program to appeal to Dallas and our alumni. And most importantly, could some rich alum just buy the DaMN so we could get every day coverage! "Build it and they will come"

Whoa there AusTxPony. You ask, "could some rich alum just buy the DaMN so we could get every day coverage!" According to some on this board, we are just not worthy or good enough to have everyday coverage from the hometown paper.
